Award availability

I know that this is a common complaint, but now is when the award seats "should" be released (352 days) for Jan 04. I checked and cant find anything for LAX-NRT, except for "rulebuster". OK, so the holiday season is at a premium - I sometimes wonder if they actually allocate any standard seats for this period. Do any of you experienced travelers know when the demand lets up? I can't really get any more advance notice.

Keep looking, you should be able to get the award seats.

A good strategy to try

Note: if you are willing to pay the new $50.00 reissue/change administrative fee (effective 3/1/03) is to book other dates on the same routing and wait list the 1/4/04 date you want.

When it opens up the seat defaults to the wait list (you) and this way you have a headstart and priority over other passengers wishing to book the same award route on 1/4/04.

This strategy has worked for me many times on transatlantic tickets.

Good luck!

In my experience, I've found this to be the case on many of the Int'ls on NW and CO. The standard award seats aren't typically loaded until about 90 days out, so most of the time all thats available are rulebusters. I say most of the time... once in a while there will be some standard awards out there at regular "rates", but way outside the 90 day window... probably not.

thezipper:

Is this 90 day out thing common for other airlines well?
