You can checkin for Tue's flights as long as it's w/in 30hrs from departure, even if you haven't flown the outbond yet.

Here's the update so far... I've been watching ITN on and off and while the it went P6 to P5, I didn't catch it with anything in F, and haven't been upgraded yet.
My SJC-MSP flight on the 7th was showing F2 earlier, but, of course, it's not within the 30 hours (I'll learn to count someday
), and I didn't get automatically upgraded. So it's sitting at P9 F0, so I'm figuring I've still got a chance.
I do think it's funny that the first, and only auto-upgraded segment was the very last flight of the itinerary, DTW-MSP on the 8th
How often does the auto-upgrade system 'sweep' through the available inventory? Is it on a regular schedule, or just a continuous sweep that takes however long the computer takes to process?
Thanks again -- I love the high value of the information on this board as compared to some of the others.

The sweep "officially" happens at 12am. CST though don't be surprised to see some upgrades start clearing at around 5pm cst.

Just to touch back on how all worked out, I got a coach BP from the kiosk here at MIA for the first MIA-DTW leg, but when I went to the gate and checked to see how the waiting list looked, I was promptly handed my already-printed BP for first class.
I posted a trip report on the three days of travel; I was extremely happy. My wife even managed to bag upgrades both ways on her trip to/from EWR on CO.
Thanks again!

I'm under similar circumstances. I'm a newly minted Silver going on a mileage run starting tomorrow. ATL-MEM-EWR-MSP-SFO and back. ATL-MEM and MEM-EWR upgraded automatically yesterday afternoon, but EWR-MSP and MSP-SFO haven't upgraded, even though they're showing P8 F7 and P9 F9 respectively.
Now, I am pretty sure I don't have to worry about getting the upgrade at the gate, but since it's now one day prior, can I call and have them manually upgrade? Do I use option 1 (Worldperks) or option 3 (domestic travel)?
Has anyone discovered any rhyme or reason for when and how upgrades are processed? Do numerous segments (such as 4 on this leg) make a difference, or the time of departure?
EDITED TO ADD: Never mind - I answered my own question. I called and am now upgraded on all segments. THIS is why I fly NW out of ATL while all of the other lemmings fly Delta.

The quickest way to get to an agent is usually calling the intl number, 800-447-4747 and choose the option for making a purchase.
