fly co to see the yanks,
When your flight time is significantly changed (usually by more than an hour) or cancelled, you can have any flight you want (but it has to be the most direct routing). If the time change has been drastic (usually several hours), you can have any flight you want on any airline (must be the most direct).
An example of this:
Recently I traveled to RNO. NW offered two flights, both to MSP (connecting onto DTW). The afternoon flight was cancelled (for the rest of the season). I was automatically reaccommodated onto the 6AM. I called up to inquire about my flight options I was prepared to argue for a refund because of the short duration of my trip, but an agent immediately informed me that I could 1) accept the 6AM flight, 2) accept a refund or 3) accept a flight on AA departing within 15 minutes of my original flight and arriving 20 minutes later. I accepted option 3.</font>

thanks, industrial. my change was less than an hour, but it makes it very tight for me to make an engagement i have to attend--particularly if there is a delay.
despite being platinum on CO (and flying mostly NW), they wouldn't offer me anything. i even said i would take a voucher for the value of my ticket--not a refund.
no dice.
so, they changed the flights (which i understand they can do and the reasons for changing flight times) but basically they said tough. (great customer service for an elite customer.)
i disputed the charge with my credit card company on the grounds that what the airline wants to provide is not what i purchased. if a flight time changes by five minutes (an extreme example) it is still not exactly what i purchased. it's bait and switch.
we'll see what happens.

What about "flight time changed at short notice". fly co to see the yanks,
Im just carious you said the time change was less than an hour. May I ask exactly how much later youll be getting in?
I dealt with another time change today: NW dumped their early-morning DTW-LAX flight from much of the fall schedule. I was ticketed on this flight four times. Reaccommodations got me into Los Angeles about two hours later - not acceptable. I called up and was able to change all of my outbound flights to AA without problem.
Also recently: I was booked on an 11:55AM flight. It was oversold, as was the 10:45AM. My flight was a regional jet, the 10:45AM was a DC-9-10. NW upgraded the latter to a DC-9-50 and I was reaccommodated onto it. Because of a previous commitment, Id never make the flight. I called up NW and had no problem getting the ticket (K fare) refunded.
Maybe because Im NW Platinum (never flown a single CO flight) and youre a CO Platinum?

I had a flight change on a mileage run from pvd-dtw-atl-msp-san Due to schedule changes they added another segment for me going dtw-mem-atl-dtw despite the fact they had direct dtw-atl flight that would have gotten me there sooner. NW is usually pretty helpful when reacommodating.
What I hate is having the NW rep quote each of the stories I give them as to the reason I need a flight change - keys clacking away in the background give me a chill.

I had a small time change on upcoming flight for 4 people. After I received the email informing me of the time change I called the elite line and tried to get them to let me change my flight to one later in the day...They told me NO...They informed me that they only have to put us on the "next closest" flight based on departure time. These tickets are the "cheap" nonrefundable/nonchangeable kind so maybe that was part of the problem, but there were those same type fares still available for the flights later in the day.
Maybe if the time change would have been longer they would have been willing to let me change to later flights?

Live4Miles,
The fare you're traveling on doesn't matter and I doubt your status does either. All that matters is the length of the time change. If it's less than an hour, you're usually stuck with the assigned flight. If it's more than an hour, you can pick any flight you want. If it's several hours, you can have any flight on any airline.
