Getting started in the system
I am new to FlyerTalk. I am trying to find out the best way to earn miles. I know about credit cards. But what card has the best plans. Also any other info would be great. Thanks:

Well, one way to earn miles is to fly. If you have heavy travel ahead, it might be a good idea to aim for Elite status. The Elite bonuses add up. If need be, consider a status challenge or mileage runs.
Also, keep an eye on promos and such. If miles is your ultimate goal, you can choose hotels, car rental companies, etc based on which one earns you most miles. (Sometimes it's more lucrative to accumulate points and later convert them to miles.... YMMV)

GO for the STarwood hotels AMEX, you get one point for every $1. Low annual fee $30, free first year. YOu can transfer the points into lots of diffierent airlines or get free rooms. WHen you transfer 20,000 points, you get 25,000 miles, which makes it for every $1 charged = 1.25 miles.

There are tons of opportunities. I am buying a 700$ laptop for a friend, so I purchased it through skymall's officemax.com deal, getting 4 miles for every $1 I spend, racking up 3000 miles without flying.
