New Security Fee at DTW

New Security Fee at DTW
I just parked two days in the economy section of the new garage at DTW. The fee was supposed to be $8 a day, but my bill came to $17. When I asked, I was told the dollar was a new security fee. I have not used any of the food vendors there. Do they also tack on a security fee?

My guess is that this is the fee for the security check of your trunk before you get to enter the parking structure.

Yes, they did check my trunk, but did not check every car. I was worried because I had three garbage bags full of clothes in the trunk and I was running a little late. But they just looked in the trunk and waved me through without searching or inquiring about the bags. So what's the point. Is this really making us more secure or by collecting another dollar per car are they just looking for an excuse to make another buck.

The security screening in garages is an unfunded FAA (or maybe now TSA) mandate for parking facilities that are within 300 feet of the terminal.
It's really a ridiculous dog-and-pony show, but the feds want it done...
