Web check-in and Exit Row Seating...

Hello all, I have a quick question. Every time I check in for a flight, I try to check in with the web checkin to gain additional miles. Normally Exit Row Seating is not displayed as a choice and it says can only be assigned by a counter agent. I always wonder how people beat me to the seats when I check in early..

However, today I checked into a flight from MSP-SEA and it gave me the option to choose the exit seating. Does it depend on the fare you paid and whether or not it gives you that choice? I used my AS FF# and I'm not an MVP either. Just something I would hope some had a similar experience and/or an explanation to. Thanks!

were you checking in via NWA.com or something available via Alaska Air?

'cause I really doubt you'd get any extra bonus miles for web checkin if you're using your Alaska Air ff #. The bonus is just for people with WorldPerks numbers.

Hi DJ, I must say I use to use the nwa.com checkin with my NWA # but have recently switched to AS, but still checkin there as a habit....

I was checking in on nwa.com using my AS #...as I have before, and was offered Exit seats for the first time in the past 15 legs I've flown.. Just wondered if it was a difference in the fare class paid (which I think was Y on this flight) or something that they recently started offering. Thanks

I was told by a NW agent that the exit row seats become available on the web 24 hours PLUS 15 minutes before your flight. So..if your flight is at 8pm Wednesday, the seats are available at 7:45pm on Tuesday. I imagine they go pretty quick this way, which would explain why they're not available when you check-in on the web.

MplsFlyer, I suppose that would make sense however, on my previous flight from Fargo-MSP, I checked in via the web, and it said exit row seating available at counter only. I continued and checked in not using an exit row. The next morning I went to check my bag and I asked if I could have an exit row and they said sure. Maybe I just had good timing when someone else cancelled?

If you're Plat or Gold Elite, or if you're on a fare booked in Y or B class, you can request exit rows prior to your day of travel through reservations. The system should even allow you to choose an exit row on nwa.com. When you check in, therefore, your exit seat would be issued to you.

I've not heard of the 24hrs plus 15 minute rule for exit seats at nwa.com, though.

Would like to hear about some success stories w/ this.

I always call to try and get the exit preassigned after making my reservaton.

However, I've avoided web checkin when my upgrade hasn't cleared because the one time I did try w/ an exit row preassigned...it gave me a non-exit seat.

I'm hoping the system has changed since them (over a year ago).
