There is one additional possibility. If you want to purchase upgrades on NW internationally, you can call CO and have them issue you a Northwest ticket and upgrade it with miles (assuming an upgrade seat is avilable) on the spot. I have done this many times. Remember that you want a Northwest ticket, not a continental ticket on a Northwest codeshare. I use it for trips from JFK to BKK/SIN. I have CO sell me a NW "M" fare and upgrade it. You get a CO email confirmation. If you provide your OnePass number, miles earned will go to your OnePass account. However, just to be sure things have gone right, call NW giving them your flight information and get your NW confirmation# (it will be different) and you can then follow the reservation in the NW system/website.
