Northwest To Take Delivery Of All New Aircraft

Northwest To Take Delivery Of All New Aircraft

Northwest Airlines has informed its pilots union that it will take delivery of all new aircraft scheduled for arrival through the end of next year.

Mark McClain, chairman of the Master Executive Council of the Northwest Air Line Pilots Association, said the carrier's top executives briefed union leaders this week at a MEC meeting in Memphis, Tenn.

Northwest is scheduled to receive 41 new planes next year - 23 from Airbus, eight from Boeing and 10 regional jets from Bombardier - at an estimated cost of nearly USD$2 billion.

Ahh, yes, and so we'll soon have the "New Aircraft Acquisition Fee" tacked on to our fares!

Northwest declined to comment on the forecast or its current fleet plans.

It seems like their fleet is aging DC10s and old blown out DC9s. These have to take a lot of maintenance, the 10s require 3 person crews, and they guzzle gas. So I can understand their wanting to upgrade their fleet.

I wonder where Nw will be on the 'next to youngest fleet' list!
I applaud NW for accepting the the deliveries in view of the current events.

Northwest to furlough fewer pilots than expected

Northwest Airlines will furlough 300 fewer pilots than first expected and also recall some part-time reservation agents to cope with more questions from customers following the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, an airline spokesman said on Monday.
