First Class upgrade
I received an e-mail from NW at 11pm on April 28 saying that I have been upgraded on BOS-DTW flight on May 4. That's more than 5 days in advance.

Hey NLP, you must be a Platinum Elite member. I believe the rule of thumb for upgrades is that Platinums get the upgrades 5 days before the flight, Gold gets theirs 3 days before. It's been a while since I was Silver 
but I think it's the day before?
So if you got that e-mail notification (great new feature btw) and you're not Platinum, count yourself lucky!

Thanks you all for your reponses. Yes, I am a platinum member. I found that this messaging didn't work for a CO flight on a CO ticket anyway. I'd have to fly IAH-EWR on coach (737-500) which has only a few FC seats.
