Transfer in SIN

In April I will be traveling to Malaysia. I will arrive on NW at midnight in SIN. Does anyone know if I can check baggage from the US through to KUL? I would like to spend the night at the Transit hotel at Changi and catch an early flight on MS up to KUL the next morning. The problem is that I can't use the Transit Hotel if I have to go through Custons/Immigration to collect my luggage. Thanks.

I've only done DTW-KIX-KUL on NWA and so I'm not sure!

Yet, can't you just do carry on?

I have stayed at the transit hotel in SIN and checked my luggage through to PER without retreiving it in SIN. Should be no problem if you have your continuing tickets to KUL at original check-in. I have done the same going back PER-SIN-MSP.

Thanks, Esteban. I was hoping for that type of answer.

doc. Sorry. Can't do carry on for 8 days! Plus we will need a lot of room for things to be bought!

They treat flights from Singapore to Malaysia differently at the Changi Airport. You have to check in at different areas and only two hour before the flights. While this does not imply that a through-checked luggage will be subject to problems, I will view that as a red-flag (it might be held somewhere for a long time and may not arive with you the next day). I think there are two safer options (1) enter Singapore and spend the night in a downtown hotel. The immigration is painless and the cabs are cheap. You also will have more and better choices of hotels. (2) Try to get an immediate flight to KL, if any is available. The KL hotels are much cheaper than those in Singapore (e.g., I paid 50%more for Singapore Marriott than the JW Marriott in KL).

I spoke to NW and was told that so long as I have connecting tickets to show to the agent who checks me in in the US, then they would check the bag through to either KUL or PEN.

If I decide to use the Transit Hotel, I noticed that there is one hotel in Terminal 1 and one in Terminal 2. NW arrives in Terminal 1 and MS departs terminal 2. Would it be better to stay in the Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 Transit Hotel for the night?
Thanks
Ed

The NW agent was correct. I was able to check through my bags from CLE all the way to PEN via DTW/NRT/SIN on NW and SQ. On the return from PEN to CLE via KUL/SIN/NRT/MSP on MH and NW, it also worked fine. On the trip to Malaysia, I stayed in the transit hotel in Terminal 2, while on the flight back to the US, I stayed in the hotel in Terminal 1, so as to be closer to the departing airlines in the early morning. Both hotels were acceptable. Have fun in Malaysia!
