Upgrade Question

What are the upgradable fares on NW and CO? What is the difference between a -26/27 fare and a 'Q' fare? Is the 'Q'fare eligible for 'unlimited' upgrades?

Also, is it possible to ask for an upgrade based on your NW elite status and then at check-in take those miles on CO? Has any one ever had positive/negative experiences with that situation?
