Folks wanted SWUs. Folks gonna get SWUs (notice how they're also available for use on any paid fare class?).
Let the whining and moaning commence...
Night, all. It's been grand.

Thanks NWA for listening and making SWUs obtainable, starting at 120K EQMs. Could have been a bit more generous, but an appreciated development for a company in bankruptcy.

Should we start a new (though still exciting ) thread?

It's not nearly as generous as UA, for example, but UA has more capacity in biz class. Plus, NW has a better biz class than UA.
Kudos for making SWUs available for redemption on any paid fare class, also.
Now the debate begins for what's the most valuable at each level, and how to develop a game plan to best use these awards.
They're in bankruptcy and they're adding perks, not subtracting them (or even keeping the status quo). I think that deserves at least a golf clap.

I see the T and Cs are different for Asia residents... I wonder how different?? If anyone has found those, please post them.
Thanks!
WOW--I am quite surprised at the SWUs--and also they are valid on ANY PUBLISHED FARE!!!???? Unbelieveable. I wonder what Fare Class they'll book into? Z?
Thanks!

Nice. I don't look at availability in J/C/Z class very much, but there tends to be more availability in C than Z, no?

In addition to the product being superior, these will also be easier to use than UA SWUs. Any paid fare into C class -- very nice.
Just wish the last tier was 150K instead of 160K; might have to do a mileage run to hit it.

One should also note that the upgrade certs. and the 50% off award certs. are explicitly defined as transferable. Granted most will probably select an award they plan on using, it's nice to be able to move them around if you end up not using them.

yawn
I can get more SWU's on AA after only 75K EQM's, NW will give me a whopping 2 SWU's after reaching 120K EQM! Yawn.

Yee-ha!
I'm quite content with these benefits. While you do have to fly quite a bit to get the really good stuff (SWU's), I'm quite impressed, and really excited!
Great job NWA. It also doesn't hurt that I have 130k booked this year so far. The fact that it is also open to Gold really gives them something to shoot for. While this new batch of incentives makes us work for our spiffs, I know it'll make me shoot for the 120k at a minimum, and probably the 160k.

FWIW, AA is offering the same stuff for their Elite Rewards program, but at 125k instead of 120k like NW. At least on NW all paid fares earn at least 1 eqm. AA has the silly .5 point stuff going on.

50% Co Eqm
The silver elite giveaway at 90k EQM could be a good deal. I'd put a rough estimate of $300-$500 on it's value.
The one thing this does highlight is the 50% eqm on CO. This will really drive me away from 50% EQM, although previously I didn't care much since I hit the 75K with no problems.
The T & C says that the Silver and Gold elite rewards will be valid until Feb 2009. Quite a deal!

so here's a question for the experts...
I have been earning platinum points for 2006 and am working on the 3rd tier.
For 2007, I should be in the 120K range once again. What would folks say are the best options at the different levels.
I have until this piont, just opted for the additional miles. Is something else more enticing.
Is SWU "worth" more than the miles .. can someone show an example? I assume on a transpacific or atlantic flight.
Thanks in advance.
JB
