Does anyone know if there is a way to transfer miles from Northwest to Delta or AA. I am flying out of DTW next month on Delta and was hopeing to put my 5k of nw miles to use.

The short answer is no. NW miles cannot be transferred out of NW.

You can use your WP membership with Delta as well. You will earn miles on DL, so I don't see why you would want to switch. The only time the switch makes sense is when you are elite and have a lot of DL flights in the future (a LOT more than NW) and you want to get the Elite perks on DL (like upgrades), but the status match is debateable.

Anyway, I say if you just have a DL flight out of DTW - stick with WP. (AA is a different story, but for 5K, it's not worth the hassle.)

Sounds like the OP already has DL miles in his/her account and wants to move the NW miles to top the DL account off.

Thanks Guys,

I live near detroit and cannot stand to fly Northwest, I always get treated like crap and delta is only marginally better. I might try to see if I can use the miles for a magazine subscription.
