If I am OK with the changes, I'll still easily requalify PLAT.

So RC, thanks for that.

I'm not here to defend RC, but to defend the concept of being rational:

1 - NW isn't doing anything out of the ordinary by announcing their program changes until Jan, just like the other airlines.

2 - RC has indicated that the changes are likely to be good, not bad.

3 - Sure NW could have put better provisions for Elites in the original CoachChoice announcement, but they did fix it, and I've seen no negative comments on it in months.

4 - Does buying tickets on another airline because you know an announcement from NW won't be made for 65 days really make sense? There are so many variables: what if the other programs reduce benefits? what if NW made changes (ie: add'l ones) retroactive to Jan 1/07? what if everything is pretty much the same?

Let's all be rational. This is afterall a FF program, not your salary, employee benefit program or social security.

(Now RC, i'm taking you to task for creating this thread. I'm guessing you are "excited" about the news, and likely dying because you can't share it until January, but why start all this commotion?)

If NWA gives a space available certificate good only on day of flight, I see that this eliminates that problem. I've seen many international flights go out with empty seats.

It's obvious that two of our moderators have become involved with and privy to information from top brass at NW.

While other airlines have embraced the entire FT communtiy and involved anyone that cared in events and discussions (cough cough CO-ugh) 2 of our fellow FT'ers have actually been recognized by NW as possibly helpful and worthy of their time.

Anyone that will spend 2 minutes and do a search will note that the timing of NW's annual program announcement hasn't changed. Also note that our "insiders" have hinted that the changes will be for the better, as they have been for the past couple of years (1k bonus miles for flying Y as Plat, companion ug's for plat companions, etc.).

CO Insider made a similar comment in reference to OnePass, the 2007 version, to those in attendence at the mini-DO in CLE a few weeks ago. Again, hinting at improvements, but no details.

NW isn't in a competitive positon to devalue their program and I trust that they won't for 2007.

Several of you need to settle down and buy panties a size or two larger.

I can see it now.....Silver Elites only will get lounge acces when traveling in K class or higher on the day of travel and will be allowed to bring in a Gold or Plat when traveling with one! This along with unilmited transcon upgrades to WBC from any fare. ^

AND, Silver Elites will be able to take a blanket or a pillow home with them after their flight. :D

The Silver bennies are going to be greatly enhanced!

No kidding. I waited with such anticipation only to find that I can buy a seat.

RC

What's the point of even posting this?

Jeez. Is this really necessary?

RichMSN and others:

I really think we should all just settle down. Perhaps the thread shouldn't have been started, but it isn't unprecedented (see the link I posted earlier) and it really isn't that big of a deal. We all know NW is going to announce the changes at sometime and RadioCycle simply was telling us when they will. Also, NW isn't doing anything that any of the other airlines do by holding their announcement, and the fact that we have moderators that have relationships with the airline in question is a good thing. Northwest is interested in what FlyerTalkers think, so much so that twice a year, two of the NW forum moderators visit with the folks in Eagan to share the concerns from FlyerTalkers and to act as our voice. Anyone remember the recent threads asking for our various opinions on things regarding WorldPerks, WorldClubs, and general airline operation details? It's good to have representation, almost like what a good democratic society should have, even though we're not at all entitled to one in a business-to-end-user relationship such as this.

Is there any chance that people who have already posted in this thread one or more times could take a self-imposed 24-hour hiatus just to cool off?
I'll do the same since we don't need to fuel any more TOS violations or get another thread locked and/or deleted.

this is just such a bizarre thread...

That's it.... I've given up... I jumping ship and exclusively traveling via AMTRAK next year... do you think they will match my elite status ? :D :D

No kidding! A thread about no news!!!

NW will announce when it needs. Maybe by the date RC has stated. Maybe sooner, maybe later. Yet the sun will rise again tomorrow.

Wouldn't this give rise to the complaint that CO always had, about "phantom bookings" for J class travel that are refunded right before departure, ensuring that seats are "magically" open for those trying to use these certs. That's how CO justifies the 24 hour rule (previously 72 hours) on mileage upgrades.

RC

RC, I believe Delta has announced changes earlier, especially when they were substantial.

As for NW, about the only changes I would like to see:

1. EQM on YX.
2. Full DL reciprocity.
3. Full EQM on all CO flights.

RC

Finally, RC, the voice of objectivity... ;)

Only kidding of course. :p

We'll just have to see.
