lost & found
Anyone have any experience with recovering an item left on a NW flight? Even better if the flight landed in MSP?

I have plenty of experience trying to recover an item left on a NW flight from lost & found (SEA/DTW).

A few years ago my dad was flying into BOS and left his sport coat in the overhead bin. He realized it as he was leaving the airport, turned around and went to the ticket desk. They wouldn't let him go back to the plane to get it, but they took his name, number, description and said they'd call him if they found it. I think he also called the elite line to lodge his request. Someone called him later that day/evening saying they had it at BOS and he could go pick it up.
I think time is of the essence in getting lost articles recovered.

A few years ago I had the misfortune of leaving my digital camera on a NW plane in MSP. After boarding, we had engine problems and had to deplane and go to another gate. In the confusion we left the camera under the seat on the faulty plane. We didn't realize it until we were at SFO. I called the next day (it was late at night when we arrived). Talked to SFO, MSP, NW. They had a crew member go to the (supposedly) plane and look in our row. Of course there was no camera there. I faxed pictures of the camera...and repeatedly called back but it never turned up.
I was very upset....on the camera were pictures of my six month old and his grandpa....the only pics we had of them together before he died.

I've lost two cell phones and a laptop on various airplanes and recovered them all. Hasn't always been the quickest process, involves a lot of calling the luggage desk and letting it ring for, say, 10 minutes, before someone answers. Once I got ahold of them, very responsive and friendly.

Two pairs of spectacles and one digital camera in the past 10 years on NW, all left in First Class, all in Seat 1A (strangely enough), all unrecovered. Sounds like YMMV.

In MEM I often hear them on the overhead ,that they found something on flight xyz. I am sure most of it depends how long your layover is and if that was the correct flight that it really came from versus an earlier one.

I must have been lucky. I left a small shopping bag on my flight from SEA-HNL on NW and I was already at the baggage claim when I realized I left it on the plane. I went over to the luggage desk, told them what flight I just came off of and my seat number, and they had one of the cleaning people bring it over to them. I waited less than 20 mins or so. I was pretty gratefull though if I hadn't gotten it back, I wouldn't have been that upset. It was only a souveniour mug and some coffee for a friend. It might have helped that I was sitting in 1st and was Platinum Elite. Luckily that was the only thing I have ever left behind.

On my return flight today I stopped by the MSP luggage desk and struck out.
