Segment Question

Upcoming trip MSP-YXU. First routing on NWA.COM was MSP-DTW-YXU for $301. If I book the trip MSP-DTW; DTW-YXU; YXU-DTW; DTW-MSP will I get 4 segements out of it? It comes up as the same price. If I book it the round trip option will I only get 2 segments?

Shouldn't matter how you book it... you'll get four segments. Of course, if MSP-DTW, DTW-YXU is all the same flight number, it will count as one segment instead of two I believe (and vice versa).

Does NWA fly DTW to YUX N/S? When I look it up on the timetable, I find stops at either NRT, AMS or CDG. If so, you will get three segments for each way. For a total of 6.

Given that YXU (London, ON) is only 126 miles from DTW, it wouldn't make much sense to route via NRT AMS or CDG.

To the OP: a "segment" is generally a flight number. That means you'll get a segment credit for each flight you take, as long as you don't take any "direct" flights where two flights have the same flight number. For example, if you fly NW758/NW250 MSP-DTW-FLL, you'll get two segment credits, whereas if you take NW250 "direct" MSP-DTW-FLL, you'd only get one.

Oops, I put in YUX not YXU. Just a little different. The DTW-Yxu flight is usually on a Saab. It will be a sad day when the MSP-DTW flight is done on a Saab.

MSP-DTW = NW flights
DTW-YXU = Mesaba flights

So, different flight numbers for sure. You'll get 4 segments.

Say hi to the folks in YXU for me! Has been a while since I have been there.
