HELP Silver Status

Looking for advice - my partner has silver status obtained from a few trips to Asia - it says on the website his status is good thru February 2007.

I have elite status an AA.... The thing I like about my partners Silver status on NWA is that using Continental provides some benefits....yet is it worth it?

I'm not sure what to tell him on how to maximize his NWA status - are upgrades really easy to get? DO NWA elites really get upgrades on CO ?

IMHO AA has a far better elite program - are there benefits for him as Silver if he were traveling allot again to Asia?

Thank you

I think it would help a lot if you browsed this summary of the Northwest elite benefits:
http://www.nwa.com/freqfly/elite/benefits.html

Also, WebFlyer has reviewed most (if not all) of the loyalty programs out there. It might be wise to read their review on NW WorldPerks:
http://www.webflyer.com/programs/rat...m.php?key=NW01

And then read their review on AAdvantage:

Yes, NW Elites are eligible for CO upgrades, although they are generally processed after CO's elites for that level are processed. Keep in mind that CO usually only has 12 FC seats on most of its mainline jets compared with NW's 16 FC seats. Also, SEA Elites have reported much difficulty in getting upgrades out of SEA. Your mileage may vary, but you should keep this in mind as well.

Good luck, and I hope you can find something that suits your travel habits.

If you are indeed only flying to Asia, then AA is probably the better program. Mainly because AA allows you to upgrade with miles from lower fare classes (of course you have the "co-pay" and such...). You will, however, be giving up 25% mileage bonus (NW Silver 50% versus AA's 25%).

That being said, I think that NW Silver level is the best bottom tier program for the domestic flyer in the country. (Unlimited Upgrades that actually occur, 50% bonus, preferred seating and so on)

Also note that his Silver (or whatever he'll end up earning, eg Gold or Plat) will be extended until the end of Feb 2008 when 2006 is over....

It's not bad esp flying on domestic flights.
