Loading Elites By Row

Last night (Mar 9) they loaded elites for the MDW-DTW flight by row. I've often wondered why they don't do that more often. Any one on that flight care to comment? (I was on MDW-MSP flight #1295 at the gate next to it - we had the fire drill load, i.e. no elite preboad because we were late and many elites on board)

This topic comes up every now and then. Seems that the GA has some discretion on boarding.
On some flights, there are so many elites that they skip elite boarding entirely. Other flights with a significant # of elites, when they have time they will board elites by row, and then the rest of the passengers by row.

disclaimer - I did a search and have seen the topic of preboarding (or not) elites often as well. Anyway - I've experienced plenty of no elite pre-board but hadn't seen the board 'em by row, then the rest of the plane. I suppose it should depend on time available.

I had a flight recently where they called the Plat's first, then a few minutes later the Golds and Silvers....

I had that happen for the first time recently too. On another recent flight the elites in Y were boarded before the F passengers as a way to expedite the process.

Having on a recent mileage run watched boarding done on one flight elites by row, another flight elites by status, boarding by status seemed a much nicer method IMHO. I wish that could be the norm on elite heavy flights.

Very often, on my DCA>DTW night flight, they pre-board by elite level.

That would make sense in a lot of situations -- get the elites thru the FC cabin & out of the way first. If the plane is ready early enough (a few minutes ahead of normal FC boarding), they ought to consider that on planes where everyone walks thru FC.

recently, on MEM-LAX there were 24 Plats on waiting-list for Upgrade (for 1 seat in FC) ! I don't know how many Golds and Silvers !! And really have no idea how many "Elites" from other Skyteam Programs.

These days the almost all seats are taken up by the "Elites"

It may be easire to preboard NON-elites !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!

Maybe the best status would be no status! And there are times when I wish I didn't fly enough to maintain plat!!!

On two recent HNL-SEA flights I found them loading by column, windows (and traveling companions, then centers, the aisles). As a plat sitting exit row aisle I was concerned about overhead space but it wasn't a problem. The second time, after I asked about elite preboarding, they did board "Rows 20-25 B and E and elites". Guess I hit a nerve.

That was the explanation given by the GA, who was rushing things becuase the flight was full and running about 10 minutes late. If she had not said anything, I imagine the people in F would have probably revolted.

Some airlines load F last. It works great, less time sitting on the plane and being hit with all the bags. TO make it work, though they have to hold the overhead for F.

This was done on one of my flights. FNT to DTW. It was an avro with 3 non elites and the rest were all elite. After boarding FC they announced that "the plane had only 3 non elites so we will be boarding the plane by row number. And just for fun lets let the Non eiltes board first so they can get the feel of eliteness." Nobody complained and we got off on time

But do they have time for predeparture drinks in FC?
