[QUOTE=NOLAnwGOLD][QUOTE=rambling]AHHHHHHH--the Las Vegas market.

So does the idea "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" apply on the flight home?? Hum....
I like the ad tagline of (the Palms I think it is?)..."What happens in Vegas, Never happened"

If there are, I just point out the soldier and the GA invariably will walk over to him/her and ask for their boarding pass, telling them they are being upgraded. In my experience, GAs are usually very willing to do this. I've done this probably four or five times in the past couple years.
I've done this as well (although on UA, I'm new to flying NW this year). Sometimes the GA will take the initiative as described above, other times I've had to approach the pax and asked if they would like to sit up front. Have also asked on BOB flights if there were any military personnel traveling in uniform in Y as I'd like to buy them a meal.

Yes... It is The Palms... and I happen to be wearing the t-shirt at the moment... how funny... actually, my friends keep asking me to bring back this shirt for them... I currently get my hair styled at amp salon at the Palms.... and really enjoy the vibe of that property... though, I find the eye candy to be a bit distracting during a serious craps session.

Is it anything like watching the TV show "vegas". I have never seen a show with so much cleavage...well not since Leave it to Beaver!

At airports, I consider offering my companion upgrades (or soon to be expiring upgrade certificates) to the elderly and do occassionally -- by talking to the gate agent to make the arrangements. An airline rep going up to a person and asking if they would like to be upgraded goes over with less "distrust" than doing it yourself. But many gate agents won't take the time or don't have the time nowadays.

People presume ulterior motive where there probably is none. I like taking people into the lounge -- especially BA lounges using my BA status. (My way of "getting even" with BA for all of those times where BA has decided that I should be given a middle seat in coach despite being a top tier elite within their alliance and even with BA itself. )

Let's see... I've upgraded Vince Neil & his drummer from BUF-DTW when Vince had a broken leg and was in a wheelchair in coach. I've upgraded military personnel. I've upgraded colleagues who are separated (e.g. silver gets the upgrade, colleague heads for the back of the plane in coach. I've upgraded people by letting the GA randomly pick as many people as they have free seats for. I've never upgraded anyone with ulterior motives or ever expected anything in return. I just hate to see first flying empty. I used to do BUF-DTW and DTW-BUF a lot, and there were many flights with 3-4 elites up front and the rest was empty. Those were the days.... now I'm lucky to score an upgrade on an $800 ticket between MSP & SFO, as a Plat.

Once, I was flying DTW/MEM and the flight was delayed. I got a little chummy (no naughty intentions... just nice conversation) with a woman in the gate area while waiting for the flight to leave, so I asked if there was room for a companion upgrade. . . the GA said yes. She was GLOWING!!! You'd have thought she won the lottery!! She had 2 free beers and couldn't wait to get home and tell her husband that she flew 1st class for the first time! It was just a fun little bonus to do a favor for somebody and the gate agent was more than happy to oblige!

Well I finally had the chance to upgrade a military person on one of my flights. I had the GA do it anonymously. It was a neat feeling to see how the person reacted when she was brought up to the podium and handed a BP to first class.

At the gate only. Plats can upgrade another pax in advance if they are in the same record.

It happened on CO though, but as a Plat I upgraded another silver's companion so they could sit together - the gate agent turned the episode into nightmare, but other cooler heads prevailed and all turned out well
