Banked WP Miles????

Banked WP Miles????
My mom and dad's WP account has BANKED MILES and AVAILABLE MILES. What is the difference between the two? Are Banked miles not available for use?

Your "Total Banked Miles" are the sum of "Current Locked Miles" plus "Current Available Miles".
Usually Locked miles are for award tickets that are waiting for the final ticketing to occur. Welcome to Flyer Talk.

No. That's why they're called locked miles. If you cancel the reservations that are awaiting ticketing they will eventually show back as available miles.

No, Current Locked Miles ARE be the miles that are in the process of being ticketed for Award travel.
For example If one had 100,000 BANKED MILES and used 25,000 to purchase an award ticket.
BANKED will still show 100,000 (until locked miles finally process through)
LOCKED Miles will show 25,000 (until it finally processes then becomes zero)
AVAILABLE miles will show 75,000
Once your award processes, it will return to
Banked 75,000
Locked 0
Available 75,000
At least that's how I see it working for me.
For example If one had 100,000 BANKED MILES and used 25,000 to purchase an award ticket.

LOCKED Miles will show 25,000 (until it finally processes then becomes zero)
AVAILABLE miles will show 75,000
