I think you totally misinterpreted my post. I have found the great majority of FAs to be absolutely GREAT! My point was that we, the customers, should respond with a smile and courteous "thank you."

To refresh your memory..........

Pilot: $8 (an extra $2 for the captain)

FA: $2 (an extra $1 for the Lead FA) plus $1 per drink, $1 if any snacks

TA: $2

GA: $2 plus $5 if you get upgraded to F/C and $50 if upgraded to B/E

TSA: $1 (they pool the tips)

i don't think tipping FAs would be standard, or normal. seems weird to me, not because they don't do a good job, but because they are salaried professionals. similarly you don't tip your doctor, or your accountant, or the pilot for that matter. non-cash gifts are a different story, and could be accepted or gently refused on a case by case basis.

imo, of course.

Here is my .02: I have made it a habit to buy a couple small boxes of Godiva truffles (the 2 piece ones) and hand them out who I think gives exceptional service. This inlcudes the check in agent and World Club attendent as well as the flight attendent that works in FC. The ladies at the HNL WC are very nice (same goes for the PC next door), the check in agents so so. As for the flight attendents on my flights recently, it is about 50/50. Usually I will have given away the Godivas but this last trip, I came back with 2. When I do pass them out, I find that the receipient is usually very grateful for being recognized. I learned this gesture reading FT for the first time. I am flying again in 2 weeks and plan to stock up again. Same goes for my Christmas trip home. Hope this was helpful.

if the airline has their way, the new flight attendants from China and India may really appreciate gratuities.

I know that NWA employees appreciate the offer of a tip, but I think that if someone has gone out of their way to accomodate you or had done what you think is an excellent job, then ask them for a comment card and fill it out or get their name and send the comment onto "talk to us" at NWA's website. That goes into their file and their superior is also made known of it. That goes a long way come review time $$$$$$$$$$$$.
