BUF Discounts?
Wonder if anyone can answer a fare question:
Dec 27 -Jan 6
BUF-DTW-SFO-HNL
HNL-LAX-DTW-BUF
Total Price: $760
DTW-SFO-HNL
HNL-LAX-DTW
Total Price $973.72
We're talking about the exact same flights, minus the BUF connection, and the second itin costs more! Why might this be? Any suggestions on a workaround, other than traveling through BUF?
Many thanks,

Hi there,
Do a search on this forum (or most airline forums) and you'll get your answer.
There's a ton of discussions about this out there. The words 'journey logic' may help as well.

Try from AZO, GRR, or MBS. Alot closer than BUF, and fares are almost as
cheap --
AZO - HNL $856.45
GRR - HNL $773.95
MBS - HNL $767.95
CLE also might be an option if you are south of DTW. Only
$752.48 for CLE-HNL.
IF you only have carry-on, you could book a multicity itin from
DTW - HNL - BUF and just skip the last segment to BUF. This
prices at $840.96. Of course, you need to make sure your return
is routed through DTW. The danger here is that irregular ops might cause
NW to change your reverse routing to go through MSP instead of DTW.
