Cool 10% Discount E-Cert

I just received the following message in an email fron NWA, giving me a 10% discount on my next trip by using an E-Cert provided in the note. I don't know why I received this. Did any one else receive a similar note lately"

"Congratulations! Your recent travel on Northwest Airlines qualified you for a 10% discount on your next trip. This is our special way of thanking you for being a loyal customer.

This 10% discount E-Cert must be redeemed through nwa.com by January 31, 2006 for travel within the U.S. 50 through June 30, 2006."

Don't recall any registration necessary -- they just do it. ECert (codes in an email) showed up about a week after the last flight.

As usual, neat idea with poor implementation: the buy that triggered the offer was TWO ticketed pax

>> 4.Awards: 10% discount on one (1) paid ticket purchased on nwa.com by January 31, 2006 for travel through June 30, 2006. (Complete award terms and conditions listed below.) This award may be earned only one (1) time during the promotion.

Guess it's really just a 5% deal

Email gives a Reference Code to use

To redeem your E-Cert, the email gives a PD Reference code to use when booking your next flight on NWA.com in order to get your discount.

I am not sure if I got the original E-mail regarding this promotion, but I see that I have gotten the 10% coupon.

This promotion isn't what got me to book a flight, however. The double EQMs on the double up promotion got me to book 2 round trips where I was sitting on the fence before on trying to get gold for this year, or just concentrate on next year.

This is great. I am sure I will have use for 10% off.

are you sure 10% off is better than the zone certificate?

You've got me confused --- to be a bit more precise ... let me state it this way...if someone bought a tickee before 9/1 to fly out of DTW or MSP -- will they get one of these E-mail messages after their flight and be able to use it for a MR out of FNT or TOL or are they out of luck because they start their trips from a hub.

> ".. confused .." Flew DTW-xxx on 08/20 -- 10% email arrived 08/26.
Terms (essentially) prohibit taking the -10% on future trip OC/DC=DTW/MSP.
Better?

> "..are you sure 10% off is better than the zone certificate? .."
On a $275 Tuesday LAX-WAS transcon, which would you use?

For my purposes, the 10% off is likely to be better. I believe the zone certificates come with a lot of restrictions on when you can travel, and availability. The 10% off is on any fare, so I can choose which restrictions I could even get a ticket on a more flexible fare.

I am becoming more and more limited as to how long I can spend away from the office. I would lose more money taking a 1/2 day off work than I would save to take an off-peak flight. Also, I could use this when traveling on business, get 1.5 EQMs, and 10% off. 10% off an F or B fare isn't bad! I own my own business, so I get to decide the fare class/class of service/restrictions etc.

Besides, I gave my last zone certificates to my receptionist. Her mother has all the time in the world to travel, but very little money. Sometimes the goodwill of employees is priceless. I am also teaching them to be more savvy when they travel, even though they don't travel very much.
