2nd Qrt ends: any bets? tic tic tic tic

Well, no pillows, much higher fares, no nuts, higher fees, pretty scary. within the next three weeks nwac reports 2nd qrt earnings. My prediction is a loss of 324 million dollars. any other guesses?

Probably $100 mil. loss.

CO and AA will be profitable. NW and DL will post a loss. UA may lose too. And with all the US-HP stuff, we won't be able to decipher US's numbers. :D

I am looking in the neighborhood of 290mm loss.

I really want to see the cash flow, Balance sheet and income statment though.

This is summer, high season, high loads, only a paltry $125-150M loss.

What's the prize?

kb1992 Jun 30, 2005 10:01 pm

I'll take the average of above 4 responses: $220 million. :D :D

I will be a bit generous and say $150M.

For May, US was short $39M and UA short $93M.

Although I would not be surprised to see NW short something like ~$500M just to scare the unions a bit more. NW seems to like to drive the point home that unions have to agree to NW's terms.

I believe it will be huge -- potentially in excess of 350 million in the red.

I'm betting on huge loss as well... though all of the guesses seem to fit that definition. The retention problems and stock sales have very strong implications, none of them good.

NOLAnwGOLD Jun 30, 2005 11:59 pm

hopefully good since i need to offload some stock!!

actually i'm thinking it's going to be pretty bad news, their costs are high, gas ain't cheap and well....just a sinking feeling....sooner or later though, the red tail will be fine....

It sure looks to me like they should be declaring a profit -- their loads are incredibly high, they've been cutting or charging for anything that resembles a perk for both employee & customer.

At the same time oil is at a record high, the stock price is as low as ever (which makes borrowing/financing really difficult) and management (whoever they are now) is doing their best (or worst?) to push the company towards bankruptcy to sock it to the employee contracts and the pensions.

I'd say a loss of at least $500 million.

Honestly, I don't really want to think about it (Ostrich syndrome). Living here in MEM, the only way I can catch a direct flight anywhere other than a Delta/American/United hub is on Northwest.

My guess...a cool $225 million.

400 million

Earnings report and conference call are on 20 july. Your 500 est is at my very high end. If it hits that number Im afraid chapt 11 will follow shortly. Fall is the slow season and wishing oil will go down is not an option. IF oil is at 70 bucks and they have to raise fares to cover it you will see consumers balk.

$222m loss, give or take a buck or two...
