Max. Connection Time in MSP
I may be going to LAX sometime in December and was wondering what is the maximum connection time in MSP. I'm looking at a flight that comes in at 3:17PM and leaves at 9:00PM. Can I check my luggage all the way through or what would I do. This flight option shows up when I search by price and I thought it may be nice to go to The Mall of America for this 5 hour 43 minute connection.

I thought that the "max" time was generally 4 hours, or it's considered a stop-over. If it prices out right, then maybe it works with the fare class you're finding. I'm sure someone wiser will have a more complete answer, but the way i see it, if it prices out, have fun at the MOA.

Generally, it's
- Up to 24 hours for int'l flights
- Up to 4 hours for domestic flights
They will make exceptions if it's to the next flight out (e.g., usually to smaller cities with little service, so long as you take the "next" flight, even if it is much later than 4 hours). Nwa.com is really good at autopricing this, so you don't need to involve an agent.

Actually, there is one flight before the 9PM flight so it would be the second flight that I could make from getting in at 3:17PM. The other one leaves at about 4:30PM. But doing the selection by price lets me do the 9PM like its just a normal connection. I just want to know if my bags would go through all the way.

There is particular no reason they wouldn't. They have to sit around longer somewhere, so there is always a slight chance that they might not connect as smoothly, but you would get them eventually. It's nice to find these longer layovers price the same as the ones under 4 hours--I would take it in an instant and just not pack valuables, medication, or any other essentials into the checked luggage (though I would never do that).

I e-mailed NW just a few minutes ago and got a quick response. The person said yes my bags would go through. Thanks very much for everyone's help!
