how does 3 day upgrade confirmation work?

so my GE becomes effective today. i have a flight on thursday night. how does the 3 day notice thing work? do the upgrades run at midnight? if so should i see tomorrow morning if it worked or not?

i read a bunch of posts and saw people talking about checking in at the 36 hour mark... do you do this on nwa.com? i thought 24 hours was the rule. is this just for GE/PE's?

i tried using that availability tool but i think i am missing something, i put in all the info and it just listed 4 flights, nothing related to seats. i tried submit and seatmap buttons. the seatmap just said there are 8 seats available but it didnt show the fare classes. NW1916 SDF-DTW on 12/16 at 6:42pm if anyone wants to try it.

Upgrades are automatic and processed 3 days prior to departure. However, you must call NW to update your WP number in your reservation to be upgraded with GE. Looks like you missed the 3 day window but call anyway. Tell the agent to remove your WP# from your reservation (all reservations done prior to new status) and re-enter the #. Sounds silly but that is the only way for NW to recognize your new status on old reservations.

i had them update it this morning. my status posted yesterday so today was the soonest i could do it.

how do you actually find out you have been upgraded before checking in?

im guessing the computer wont know until it does another "sweep"... anyone know how often these occur?

if someone could PM me the GE number that would be awesome. i think i got put in the base queue this morning calling the silver line with my GE WP#. i had to enter my WP twice and they didnt even say my name when they answered the phone.

It seems to sweep every night. You can find out if you've been upgraded by looking at your reservation on the website. You can also sign up there to be notified, by email, phone call etc...

What's interesting is that sometimes you get upgraded before thewindow opens, but teh email only goes out when it does.

If your WP number is re-entered then you have to wait and see what happens later today. Usually by 6 pm central time the sweep is done. Calling will not help right now as the agents are unable to upgrade over the phone.

Will PM the phone #.

Currently P5 F0 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 V9 L9 T9 K9. Pretty good chance that you will be upgraded at the gate, even if you miss the EUA.

F0 means R is also zero. No upgrades available now, probably gate only.

The upgrades DO NOT run at midnight - in fact I think its a little random. I watched my flights for saturday get upgraded today at 12:30pm (I was looking at my seats exactly as the upgrades were popping - one at a time).

Here is what I have figured as the upgrade days (since 3 days is not a true amount)
Flight Day/PE/GE/SE
Sat/Sun/Tues/Thurs
Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri
Mon/Tues/Thurs/Sat
....
So if your flight is on a Sat and you are a GE then look for your upgrade some time on Tues.

so if the F bucket has seats i should be able to look at my seats on nwa.com and see that i was upgraded (along with getting my choice of notification)

if its marked F0 and P[1-9] then i should hope for something at the gate.

i used that itn.net earlier today it worked.. maybe i had a diff link than you were using.

edit: i just went back and now it doesnt work :-(. i just discovered it today for crying out loud. how dare they :P

Not quite.

The R (upgrade) bucket is a subset of F. Many of my recent flights have been F4 R0 up to the day of departure. This happens often on sold-out flights: NW is trying to sell discounted F instead of full-fare Y to last minute fliers.

I believe notification tends to happen at least 4 hours after the EUA runs. I always seem to notice my seat assignment change well before I get the ug email.

EUA'a generally begin to run randomly through out the day about 6 days out from your flight for Platnium. I have to believe that it is about 4 days out for Gold and 2 out for Silver, depending on availability. As plat I can usually count on finding my upgrade 6 days out sometime during that day. It is not at a consistent time so i jsut look through out the day. If I do not see it 4 days out I look for it at the gate... So far 100% on upgrades this year...

I have to look at the reservation, and at that time I go in and select my seat.

Congrats on making gold and I hope you always get to sit in the big seats!!!

ok so the EUA went through sometime between 11pm last night and 8am (EDT) this morning. it showed as an R fare.

being elite is so much cooler than not being elite.
