Dramatically increased award availability on DL?

The title says it all. I'm finding Standard Business Awards 9 out of 10 days (including holidays, etc) to AMS, FRA, BRU, LGW, etc on DL. I checked October-January of next year. I hope this is a benefit we're seeing from SkyTeam. I just put 8 of these on hold - great news! ^

DL has had good award availability for a while. Even the InsideFlyer survey indicated this. Some on this forum simply refuse to believe it.

keithguy, I'm not talking "good" I'm talking "OUTSTANDING"

I checked 100 random Europe flights in the next 4 months. 96 had standard biz awards available! This can't be right....especially since yesterday I couldn't get anything to come up.....

I have to agree that the availability of the awards via DL have seem to gone up quite a bit recently. I was looking for some freebie around the holidays and there was nothing up until about a week ago. Now, there are quite a few options and all those options are DL based.

I am just glad to see the availability at all so if this is a result of previous decisions, a big thanks to those who made those moves.

Well, I needed to book 8 awards, and 90k on Delta vs 160k RuleBuster.... for 560,000 miles I can spend a little time working on a problem. (BTW, checking 100 random flights only took about 15 minutes. Various combinations of DCA/PHL/MSP/DTW to MAD/AMS/LGW/CDG/BRU/ATH/ZRH on various dates.)

Would you be using NW or DL miles for these tickets. (How difficult is it to use NW miles for these DL flights?)

It seems right to me given that InsideFlyer found an 80% rate:

With regard to the very popular, and very scarce, business-class awards, we logged a dismal success rate. Only 54 percent of the time were we able to get the business-class awards we wanted. But it wasn't a total loss, as we uncovered two programs that fared very well in this category -- American AAdvantage and Delta SkyMiles. The AwardPlanner representatives were able to redeem miles for business-class awards on AAdvantage 92 percent of the time. We find that almost unbelievable and applaud the program loudly for the record. Delta SkyMiles wasn't far behind at 80 percent.

Unfortunately, there had to be a last place as well, and when it came to redeeming business-class awards this unenviable distinction fell to Northwest WorldPerks, which only made available the awards we requested 15 percent of the time.

How were you checking all those DL flights for awards? The DL site only allows you to see Domestic seats???

ironmanjt is right - DL has dramatically increased the number of available award seats (at least in First Class). Ive noticed this while checking the several possible itineraries Ive been following.

Also, there's solid availability in First on several flights to HNL during December 22-24 and from HNL January 1-2. I followed these flights daily for many, many months and previously there was absolutely nothing available.

Don't know for sure, but since this is the NWA forum I would say NWA.com which is showing DL codeshare flights which are bookable with WP miles.

Wow, I've been looking for C class seats to EZE - suddenly they are there!! Great news. Makes it pretty easy to get to South Africa since there is always a lot of C (and F) availability from EZE to CPT (or JNB) on Malaysian. Only problem is kind of a long layover in EZE - 12 hours on the way to Africa, 6 hours on the way back. But you can always do a stopover in EZE and see the city.
