Using the LIRR TVMs

Hi, folks. It's me again. I'm writing up step-by-step insructions for my nephew on how to get from JFK to Penn Station based on info gleaned from several forums. One individual, trying to walk a traveler through how to use the LIRR Ticket Vending Machine made the following comment:
"Select numbers of tickets you wish to buy. If you only want a LIRR ticket, click NONE."

Is this correct??? Is there not an option to purchase one (1) ticket? I've been doing alot of cutting and pasting so maybe I accidentally cut something because his comment to choose "None" made no sense to me.

I think that the prompt in question is about whether the purchaser also wants to buy a MetroCard for the subway, and the correct answer is, in fact, none.

My recollection of the TVM process for the machines at Jamaica Station are that they make it ridiculously easy. The screen says something like "to Penn Station" and you press that button, press the number 1 for the number of tickets you want, choose your payment method and pay. Hopefully your nephew can handle that.

Does your nephew really need a step-by-step written instructions on how to use the LIRR machines which are prompt driven? Or is there a language barrier?

I use the ticket machine all of the time. The none refers to adding a metrocard to the LIRR ticket.
