Help please!
Okay My friend has a grad school interview and it is at Sara lawrence in Bronxville. Her interview is at 9:30 am on a weekday. I work for Marriott hotels so I can get a discount but the closest hotel for the discount says Renaissance in White PLains 8 miles. I think we are flying into Newark, How would she get to Bronxville from Newark? And we may stay at the CY in Jersey City, is it a good neighborhood and how do you get into the city, is therer subways? Any help would be greatly appreciated, My uncle live in the city but will be out of town when we are going!

The CY in Jersey City is not exactly in a good neighborhood, but it should be safe. I don't think there have been any shootings in the immediate vicinity since the last time 50 Cent stayed in the Doubletree across the street.
And it's right next to the Pavonia/Newport PATH Station, which will get you into the city. See http://www.panynj.gov/path/index.html
To get to J.C. from EWR... either NJ Transit train or bus to Newark Penn Station. Then take the PATH train to Journal Square and switch to the other PATH train to Pavonia/Newport. Taxis from EWR to J.C. are very expensive, and the buses are very slow.
To get from J.C. to Bronxville.... Take the PATH to the World Trade Center, then walk a block or two east to the 4 and 5 subway station at Fulton St. Take the 4 or 5 train uptown to 42nd St Grand Central, where you can get the Metro North Train to Bronxville. According to http://www.slc.edu/visit, you'll need to take a taxi from Metro North to the SLC campus.
That's a lot of transit, though.
A better option might be to just rent a car and stay at the Residence Inn New Rochelle, which is only 5 miles from SLC (see http://www.slc.edu/index.php?pageID=2842). Of course if you're both under 25, renting a car is going to be expensive.

Bronxville from Newark - The easiest, and may be the least expensive, would be to take the bus from Newark to Grand Central terminal for $12 ( http://www.olympiabus.com/ ) then from there to Bronxville on Metro North for $5.50 (www.mta.info). Figure about 30 to 60 minutes for the Newark to Grand Central (depends totally on time of day and traffic) and another 30 from Grand Central to Bronxville, plus up to a half hour waiting time for the next bus and train at each, again depending on the time of the day.
The metro north fare is for off peak, if it's during peak it will be a couple dollars each way more. Peak from GC to there is in the afternoons, the return is peak in the mornings.
Probably have to take a cab from hotel to school and train station to hotel

If you have a car, there is a Courtyard and a Marriott in Elmsford/Tarrytown NY.
Probably about a 15-20 minutes drive south to bronxville from here.
It's about 55-60 minute drive from EWR to these properties.

And if you haven't bought plane tickets yet, LGA is much closer to Bronxville than EWR. There are good (and cheap) airport hotels by LGA, from which you can just take the M60 bus to 125th St and Park Ave in Harlem (Manhattan) and take the Metro North from there.
HPN is closer still. If you or your friend are over 25 and can rent a car at HPN, that might be the easiest (and maybe even cheapest) thing to do.

Thanks for the responses
We haven't bought the tickets, so maybe we will look at LaGuardia. This is in 2 weeks from today so hopefully this will all work out. Thanks again for all the replies, I will have to let you know what we decide to do.
