WTC PATH Replacement Station Approved

NEW YORK (AP) -- Commuter train service between New Jersey and lower Manhattan will be re-established by December 2003 in a $544 million project, officials said Thursday.

A temporary PATH station will be opened next to the World Trade Center complex -- a stop that served 65,000 daily commuters until September 11. The station will operate until a permanent transportation plan is developed, officials said.

The PATH train still serves Manhattan, but only makes stops north of the trade center site.

The plan for the temporary station was approved Thursday at a meeting of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Board of Commissioners.
