CLEAR at T4 JFK (mostly DL)
I flew on Fri.at 7:00am on 12/6. There were so many CLEAR pax that there was a special TSA lane just for CLEAR. [In the past CLEAR pax "jumped" the PRE-CHECK queue.]

However my recollection is that JFK T4 (like some other locations) has had a dedicated CLEAR+Pre lane for quite a while now, in which case there is no "jumping" because everyone in that lane subscribes to both services.
However*2 it is possible that during off hours they don't keep that lane open and they revert to only one CLEAR lane.
Anyway I could be wrong about any of this, but it doesn't sound to me like you encountered anything novel or unusual.

I think that normally the Clear Precheck line (at the far right of the terminal near where you exit the SkyPriority check-in area) feeds into the two x-ray machines that the general PreCheck population uses. You just jump ahead whoever's getting their ID checked by the TSA agent, and then you can choose to use the left belt or the right belt.
But perhaps this time nrr is saying they kept the left-hand x-ray belt dedicated to precheck-only pax and the right-hand x-ray belt dedicated to Clear pax with Precheck.
I think there's a separate Clear lane for passengers *without* precheck further to the left, but I don't think that's part of the discussion.
