New Years Eve Party in Manhattan ideas

I will be staying in Manhattan around New Years and looking for something to do. Going outside in Times Square near the big ball drop ceremony is not an option for me. Too cold, no bathrooms, etc. I'm looking for a good hotel party with drinks, snacks, etc. A view of the ball drop might be nice, but not crucial. Is it going to be extremely cluttered to walk to a party? Thoughts?

How much are you prepared to spend??? Anywhere within sight of the ball drop will be $$$ whether a hotel or restaurant (plus likely booked by now).

Time Out in previous yeas has done various lists such as the 'top ten places' for New Year in NYC so google that for an idea.

Times Sq is to be avoided as one must arrive in the afternoon to be penned with no bathrooms as you said above.

A wide area gets penned off between 5th or 6th Ave to the east, uptown to probably 57th St, and downtown to maybe 34th?

Pick a hotel away from that area. You can go out to dinner, see an off Broadway play, go to the Philharmonic or the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center, whatever you want.

It's been forever since I've done this, but lots of bars (possibly including hotel bars) will sell tickets for NYE gala events, basically open bar for a few hours and food (heavy appetizers or a light buffet). You're probably looking at $150-200pp.

Agree with staying away from the Times Square area.

Most venues are complete bores and well overpriced. The public theater always has fun stuff going on.

The "Frozen Area" extends from east of 6th all the way to 9th avenue. If you have a hotel key you can get back to your hotel, but maybe not the most direct route

For about $100/person, you can buy tickets to the 10pm comedy show at Caroline’s on Broadway. You will be instructed to show up at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 49th St by 9pm (IIRC), where you will be escorted past the police baracades (and the poor slobs who have been penned in all day) directly to the club. After sitting through the show, which will end around 11:45pm, you’ll be escorted up a back stairway onto 7th Avenue where you will have a spectacular view of the ball dropping. (You’ll also have a spectacular view of the penned in crowd, but you yourself will not be penned in. You’ll be free to go back into the club at any time, including after the ball drop, to access the bar and to use the bathrooms.)

Edited to add: as of 6am EST today, November 13, tickets were still available to both the early and the late shows.

Also, while I don稚 know this for sure, I知 guessing that if you buy tickets to the earlier show, they値l let you hang at the bar after the show ends so that you can join the crowd going up the back stairs at 11:45pm to watch the ball drop. That値l give you a couple more hours of drinking time!

United MileagePlus has a bid/buy for a dinner and/or reception at Aureole's (a Charlie Palmer restaurant on 42nd Street)/ for its Visa Signature members. I doubt that this venue provides a live view of the ball drop.
