NYC stay for family of 5 (Oct 2018)

Hi all.. looking to fly in to come over next october and was wondering if anyone has rented appartments off air bnb as its hard to get hotels that cater for 2 adults 3 kids... seen quite a few on air bnb where you get the whole flat for family, can anyone reccomend anywhere decent to stay for 5 nights... is newport in nj to far from manhattan??

Newport is right across the river in New Jersey. There's a PATH station there, takes about 30 minutes to Midtown during the week, slower on weekends. Entirely doable. Be aware that the kind of apartment rental you're talking about (entire apartment, less than 30 days) is generally illegal in NYC. No issue in Jersey City/Newport, as far as I'm aware.

How old are your kids?

30 mins just to get to mid town plus the time to get to wherever you want to be and then back can be very draining on young kids which will make them kranky.

Have you looked at some of the 'suite' style hotels which can have bigger rooms and 2 beds and a sofa pull out?

Take a look at the Hotel Beacon on the upper west side. Many of it's rooms were former apartments.

Ditto for most of the Affinia properties (former apartments) Nice size with kitchen/ette facilities in most rooms....
