How is the Saugus area by BOS?

I'm looking to stay near the airport in BOS and was wondering how is Saugus in terms of safety and eating places. Is it a good neighborhood to walk around? Are there a lot of restaurants in the area?

Thanks.

Saugus is a big place, and the area designated as such by
the booking search engines is even bigger, as it encompasses
Revere and possibly all the way up to Lynnfield.

There is very little public transport to or from Saugus.

There is little to do there, and almost nothing is walkable.

There are plenty of restaurants on the US1 strip, some of
them (Donatello, for example) quite good: but good luck
walking - or even finding a taxi - to any of them.

Can you be more specific as to the property you're thinking of booking?

In any event, the area is perfectly safe and there are plenty of dining options (although mostly chains), but the area generally is not walkable.

It's not really a neighborhood at all -- more like a support system for an arterial highway. No atmosphere, not very welcoming. If you want a walkable neighborhood, keep moving north to Salem or Gloucester.

Thank you guys. Blumie - to answer your question, I don't know. I saw this offer on Hotwire for $85 at a 4 stars hotel and I was tempted. I haven't booked it yet but I think that I will be better off staying in the city. Just wanted to get some "feel" for the area.

If you are visiting Boston itself, public transportation won't be very convenient from Saugus to downtown and the traditional tourist or business areas. Your savings will be eaten up with taxis or parking if you rent a car. Now possibly Hotwire is picking up an airport hotel as Logan is not that far from Saugus (go here for Hotwire hotels http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=69& ). An airport hotel would not be terrible for a visit to downtown Boston especially at $85 per night, but it is much nicer to be able to walk out your hotel door and either walk or hop on the T to get to your destination.

The more I think about it, the more I am inclined to stay in the city. Thank you for your suggestion OB one. I think I will priceline instead.

That's great. Just make sure you go to the right one, as there are three Hyatts: one at the airport, one downtown, and one in Cambridge.
