MSP -> BTV Question
Hi everyone,
I recently relocated from MSP to BTV last February. I've noticed that flights between MSP and BTV run pretty close to $450 on average. Last June I was able to snag a R/T ticket for $189, but that seemed like an anomaly.
I'd like to fly in some family members from MSP to spend NYE out here. Do any of you feel that fares might drop at all in the next month or so? Right now flights are right near $490 R/T.
Thanks!

I do not think holiday season fares will drop in the next month or so. In fact there's some evidence that the cheaper fare buckets are selling out faster, earlier this year, therefore fares will do nothing but rise, especially to limited-service destinations like BTV.
MHT is about 2.75 hours south of BTV and generally a much cheaper destination because it is a Southwest city; it also has a lot of mainline service whereas BTV has little or none (JetBlue excepted). That might be an option for you.

Having spent 4 years in VT and having flown on a near weekly basis for all 4 of those years, I can almost guarantee that you'll find cheaper flights out of MHT or possibly ALB (2.5-3 hours south on 7 or take the ferry and hit the Northway). I managed to get a cheaper flight out of BTV maybe 5 or 6 times out of 165 outbound flights. MHT also has a few more daily NW flights than BTV.
The drive on 89 is pretty much a straight shot at 75mph (if it's not snowing) and is fairly easy to pull off in 2.5 hours, as I used to do it in slightly less than 2 from Mont-p.

Unless the weather was really against me, I always used to figure: 75 minutes from Burlington to Lebanon and the NH line; another hour from Lebanon down to Concord and the join-up with I-93; and another 15 to 30 minutes to MHT from there. Most of the time, it's a really pretty drive on a lightly traveled highway.
