really? What is the price of a medium coffee at Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, respectively? Last I checked they were pretty similar.

Having grown up in New England, it's still in my blood. I'm 65 miles away from the nearest DD, but when I use ATL, it's on the way home. I always stop for a dozen and an iced decaf. The flavor of the coffee in unique. And KK donuts can't hold a candle to DD's.

Dunkin Donuts are so thick and fast on the ground here in MA that we use them as reference points when giving people directions. Of course, the more there are, the more problematic this becomes. I live out in the burbs, not even in the city, and could walk to 4 different Dunkin Donuts.

So many Dunkin Donuts!

I live just outside of Boston, and there are 23 Dunkin Donuts within 5 miles of my house. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but I love their donuts and breakfast sandwiches.

nice to hear about a touch of home and if i may, 2 things......

why haven't i simply heard it referrred to as "dunk's" or was that a "my generation thing".

second-a tip of the hat to goalie-dad as the coffee that you all enjoy was his idea and recommened flavor combo when he worked at dunk's corporate in randolph, ma as vp of r & d. the goal was to get a coffee that everyone would like and as he put it "from joe the truck driver to cecille the snob" (with no offense to the joes 'n cecilles of the world). my family and friends got to perfrom an "organoleptic analysis" with the various coffee flavors dad brought home and give him the results. the whole process took over a year but as we can all see, it was well worth it.

In Providence, RI, the civic center's naming rights were purchased by Dunkin Donuts. The nickname of it is now "The Dunk"!

The Donut Thing

Goes farther than DD, there seems to be a very regional issue to having stand alone donut shops (prevalent in the NE not in other parts of the country). When I visit a client site for a first visit I used to try to grab donuts to take with me, nice ice breaker. Being from the northeast my entire life I just assumed every city had a donut shop (or 50), this isnt the case. In the midwest particularly you seem to have to go into an overgrown grocery store to get donuts in the morning, they dont have separate shops for them, and that is JUST WRONG!

I can tell you that DD was a very big saver after having irregular ops in BOS. The DD in BOS (Term. D, IIRC) is open 24 hours a day--so it was a nice to have at least a semi meal after my airline could't get me out on time and didn't offer me meal vouchers.

Aah. You beat me to it. I have seen several events at the Dunk, though. As you might expect it's very easy to get a coffee there.

My Alma Mater, Berklee College of Music on the corner of Masachusetts ave and Boylston street has not one...not two...but three DnD's on the same block. One can order a coffee at the first one and not have even been able to take the first sip because it's still too hot by the time the third one has been passed. I guess they're just doing that much business. Also, there's a Starbucks in the building next to one of the DnD's. Plus the 7/11 between them has half way decent coffee. Those musicians do stay up late, ya know!

I always looked at a medium regular as candy. When I want some real rocket fuel I'm looking for a Starbucks.

While many of my co-workers and friends prefer their DD, I still find their coffee bitter. I go for Honey Dew first and Starbucks next.
