Flights to Nantucket . . . from Norwood?

Southern Airways (out of Florida) has announced seasonal service to ACK from Norwood, New Haven, and TF Green Airports: https://www.boston.com/travel/travel...gland-airports

I've lived near Norwood for a very long time, and I don't ever recall commercial flights from there. Hanscom? Sure, but never Norwood. Article even confirms this is a first for Norwood

Won't this require new licensing for the airport, new security, TSA agents, and a whole bunch of other changes? Can flights carrying 9 passengers, even at $179 generate enough revenue to pay for this?

Not necessarily. Some flights on small planes that serve small airports don't make their passengers go through TSA screening. Lots of airports in Alaska, for example, don't have TSA checkpoints. Of course, if they arrive in ANC and the passenger is making a connection on DL, AA, UA, or the like, they have to go through screening in ANC. This is also true for some flights in the lower 48--as one example, 9K (Cape Air) flights from MVY to EWB (Martha's Vineyard, MA to New Bedford, MA) have typically not required their passengers to go through security.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I guess they will need to hire a desk person to help check folks in. And to load/unload luggage?

When I flew BOS-MVY on Cape Air a few years back, the pilot handled all the luggage. There wasn't much.
