Quote: I saw VW Golf wagons on the Aisle at Columbia SC (CAE) in June 2019. They were a mix of NC and SC plates, not surprising given the proximity to Charlotte and larger cities in SC. If VW is making a heavier appearance in the selection now, particularly the Golf, in several places (EWR and YYZ threads both mention this now), there might be a unifying reason: Less impacted by the chip shortage, more cost-effective, etc.
I had a 2020 Golf earlier in the year as well. For sure the best ICAR out there with a 1.5L turbo engine and decent chassis. All Golfs in the US comes with a panoramic roof but with manual climate controls. The Golf sold in the US right now is one generation behind Europe and built in Mexico so VW is probably giving Enterprise a good deal on them.

I almost took one, just because it was small and nimble, but I wasn't sure what the standard engine was these days. If it had said GTI I definitely would have snagged it. As I was in the car for 5+ hours I went for power instead.

Quote: Morning of Fri Sep 17th.

ES had an Atlas, several Tiguans, RAV4's, and Rogues. Rest were Altima/Camry/Charger.

EWR is now the proud owner of a Miata RF GT that I picked up from a local station. First one I've seen in several years and was lucky to be able to grab it. The 2020 model added 27hp to the engine so it feels noticeably faster than the 2018 I drove previously. I thought the previous version felt pretty slow so now it's best described as adequate.

I picked up a Miata RF from EWR back in June. I took it up into some curvy roads around Newburgh, NY and it was awesome. It had Florida plates and about 24k miles, but I still took it because it's so much fun to drive.

Yep, probably the same one! 27k miles now. FL plates with a clear plastic cover (first time I've had a rental with a plate cover).
Took it up to some curvy roads in harriman state park and had a lot of fun.

I took it up to the Bear Mountain in Harriman State Park as well.
Here's the back of it, it looks like it has the cover, but I can't remember now.

Yes, that's the exact same car! I know where you took that photo as well. Great view there and many people don't know you can drive down that road.

That's awesome that we rented the same car and took it to the same locations.

Does anyone know if they will force you into a Canadian plate car for one way to YYZ? I usually ask (and I think they force you to) when doing one ways into the states since the ES/EA selection at YYZ is pretty bad... Not sure how it works at EWR(thinking about asking if the aisle aren't impressive, but who knows what Canadian plated cars they have)

Quote: As an Executive Elite, I was trying to use my free credits for something. I was able to work out a deal to try out the Maserati SUV and was able to try two days at 250.00 total costs.

The interesting thing, I went to drop if off and pick up another car and attempted a 7-Series BMW with the free credits thinking EE can grab anything. Unfortunately, no.

Here is the list of the highest level cars an EE can get on free credits per EWR's print out. Hopefully this helps someone out.

can't you make a paid reservation and just call Customer service to apply the free day coupon after you return it?

I had a one way to YYZ a few months ago and I just picked a car from the aisle (mind you, that day, there were only 2 cars on the aisle). No one asked me if I was one-waying the car. I don't think EWR has a special Canadian cars section anyways, the fleet these days is way too tight to be setting cars aside.

FYI: at the border, they asked me for proof that I was the renter of the car but I didn't have a printed contract. However, they just let me through. So you may want to ask for the contract to be printed out.

Also, current restrictions for Canadian citizens still bans non-essential driving from Canada into the US. In that case, the natural traffic that sometimes brings down Canadian plates dries up.

Yeah, it's crazy how quiet the border is. Two weeks ago, there were no cars at all lined up ahead of me when I crossed from Canada to the US.

I would think the proof on the national app(lists your name, current vehicle plate number etc) should be sufficient since they accept digital proof of vaccination as well
