Any discount Contract IDs that ACTUALLY really work WELL?

Unlike the Avis thread which seems to be loaded with discount contract ID nos., I dont seem to be able to find the same here on the National thread.

Any particular reason why...???

Anyway, I have been attempting this morning to discount a National rental without much success. Five percent (or $2.85) is the max that I seem to be able to get - no matter what coupon ID codes that I use. Most distressing, is even the AARP codes - which claims to give 'up to 30%' - won't give me more than 5%.

I am interested in a OW rental and PL and Hotwire, etc. won't work in this case. Anyway, here's some codes that may work for someone:

AARP - 5040000 and 6100120
NWA - 6900600
Allstate - 57007746
SAM'S - 5504500

Anymore out there that might work for me?

tvl4free: unrelated... but possibly of use:

I've found through many experiences that Dollar and Budget also offer one way rentals for competitive rates with no drop fees. they just don't advertise it as much as National.

Maybe this gives you more options. Good luck!

VJ, Unfortunately, Budget doesn't rent OW between the cities needed and Dollar isn't located in the origin city.

Anyone else have anymore discount codes that actually might work for better than a 5% discount?

I don't know if it will work for you, but I have usually found my best rates at National are with the Emerald Club Contract ID Number of 5007125.

Another suggestion, if it's for a multi-day one-way rental, you can split it into two (e.g., one day for the one way, drive to your destination, then return the car and immediately pick up a replacement vehicle for a local rental for the remainder of the trip). Granted this may limit your flexibility some, but you will only be penalized for the one way rate for one of the days.

Here's a few to try. National's discounts are not as good as they used to be. I recall the Emerald Aisle number providing 15-20% discounts at one time; now more like 5-10%.

American 5036929
US Air 5006972
IAPA 6999999
Canadian Airlines 3617576
Continental 5007160
United 2700075
Travelers Direct 5129804
Emerald Aisle 5007125
Generic Motor Club 5066904

For rentals in EWR, go to Alamo's website and they will direct you to National's site with a special code giving 20% discount.

I tried the "generic motor club " # 5066904,
and it gave me a fantastic price on an SUV
rental for Maui in Feb:
$386USD for 10 days!
It will even let me combine it with an Air Canada double Aeroplan points promo!
This is the best rate I have found yet.

The vacation Outlet coupon as per http://www.mousesavers.com/groundtrans.html#national worked well for me in LAS. 3 Days for a Mustang at around $55.00 total incl. taxes. did not need to present the coupon and had my pick of vehicles with Emerald Aisle

Delta coupon code of 10008499 and Sam's Club Discount Code of 5504500 gave me a full size car with Double Delta Miles for $48.64, all taxes included, for three days in New Orleans next week. I was going to take the convention shuttle bus but why should I at this rate?

When you use a coupon code, make sure you have the coupon. When I checked out my car last week, the clerk asked me for the coupon. Luckily, I always attach the coupon to the confirmation page I print off at time of reservation, so this did not create any problems for me. She didn't ask me for my Sam's Club card, though.

When I rented from LAS I was told over the phone "you dont need the coupon" I get there and they ask for it then jack up the price when i dont have it but gave me a form for rembursment. I couldnt find the coupon so was out of luck. That was one learned in the school of hard knocks.

Excellent thread. I shaved 9% off a rental at LIH just by trying various codes.
