I dont want to get in the middle of this issue/fight/whatever, but... this seems like quite a cloak & dagger case. How do people get access to supposedly private forums even though they are supposed to not have access. Im just as curious as the next guy around here.

In any event, lets not let this turn into a Watergate-like issue and blow away a board that we all love. Sure, some people dont like me on these boards and probably post/write emails both with me knowing about it and behind my back, but.... who gives?

Which to me makes it even more inappropriate that your name would be involved in private discussion by the Talk Board of any type.

I'm with Island Cub - if any of the rest of us have had our names mentioned in "closed door" discussions, I think we have a right to know about it.

Oh... another thing: Am I part of the old boys club or should I consider myself a nouveau-poster and therefore a part of the new-dudes gang?

If it helps, I can tell you which posters I consider to be my friends and perhaps that will decide which side of the pig-pen I belong to....? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Someone, please let me know.... after all, I dont want to think I belong in one place if in reality I belong to another. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Hey, I thought that was Koko's tag line! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Well, I'm neither an old-boy nor a new-dude. And friendship really has nothing to do with observing the TOS of FlyerTalk and respecting ALL members.

I would think that any discussions on these boards should be subject to the TOS that we all agreed to upon signing up. Even if these discussions are "private", i.e. TalkBoard, they should remain respectful.

Even if it is "just a ******* internet bulletin board" &lt;expletive deleted&gt;, peoples' feelings can still get hurt and care should be taken.

Otherwise, we should call ourselves JALFIBB (Just Another Lousy ******* Internet Bulletin Board).

P.S. I vote with Comicwoman.

P.S. Koko, I don't know you, but you're still welcome at my table in Paris.

Are you asking is it still inappropriate?

Let's see... they were talking about you (according to the dates on cigar's post) on 2-28... you didn't air your opinions on the TB until 3-8.

... the standards for being a moderator on FT require, at a minimum:

1. Impeccable behavior at FT functions
2. A breathalyzer - what is the ETOH limit I wonder? Would this be based on highest documented blood alcohol level, or average # of drinks per day/week?
3. An undefined minimum age
4. Being Most Level Headed
5. Not having distractions like going to school - one would then assume having a job is similarly distracting?
6. Being a member of the new "Click"
</font>
Someone needs to join techgirl in the "rate yourself" sweepstakes, so here goes:
1. I qualify. I have neither broken anything nor launched myself at the serving staff.
2. I qualify. Although I have never blown into a Breathalyzer(R), I believe I will be able to do it if the need should arise.
3. I have attained -- nay, exceeded -- an undefined minimum age, 40% ahead of techgirl at last count!
4. Although I am not "most level-headed" (many people have flatter heads than I), I believe that I am mostly level-headed.
5. Oh, dear. I have a job and go to school also. Do I lose double points on this one?
6. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of any clique (that last bit should be read in a Joseph McCarthy-type of voice), except for two stuffy mens' clubs and the Red Carpet Club.

Hmmm . . . four "yes," one "abstain," and one "no" that might count double, for a net plus-three, not very good.

Defenses Against Libel

Truth: * * * And, is the truth actually information that should have remained private? (For example, your friend's confessed addiction to internet p*rn.) Finally, there's malice. You might state the truth and nothing else, but if the context makes it clear you're doing so to hurt that person... Bzzt. Just knowing you're right may not be enough.
</font>
A little follow-up: truth is an absolute defense to a libel action. If I say that X has what was quaintly once called a "loathsome disease," and X sues me for libel or slander (depending on whether I spoke or wrote it), I can defeat X's claim by proving that X does in fact have a loathsome disease.

The catch (and I think this is what kokonutz was thinking of) is that if the statement's true, X won't sue me for libel. X will sue me for invasion of privacy, for which truth is not a defense.

So, Law Lord, what kind of damages do you think I can get for being libeled against in order to keep me from becoming a FT moderator??? LOL

kokonutz, if the defamatory statements kept you from becoming an FT moderator, then I think you owe the culprit a lot of beer as a sort of thank-you.
