Defunct airlines that I've been on that no has mentioned yet:

TriStar Airlines (flying 6 abreast, not 5, BAe146 from LAS to California cities and LAX-SFO. On the LAX-SFO run, I counted 9 passengers.)

Executive Airlink (flying Bell 222, later Bell 206L JetRanger III? from IAH to Houston heliports in Downtown, Marriot Astrodome, Greenway Plaza, Town and Country, Park 10)

TAT, flying in Air France livery. (I flew them on a Heathrow-Lille route).

Command/American Eagle (I flew them to Albany, NY). I think they went bankrupt.

Someone asked about Muse Air. Southwest bought them and changed the name to TranStar.

I don't think anyone mentioned Kiwi International, Morris Air Transport, Tower Air, Ozark (II), UltrAir, MGM Grand, Air One, Pride Air, Air Niagara, Air Atlanta, Pacific Express, Transamerica, Metro, Presidential, Valujet (now Air Tran), Braniff (III), Empire, Florida Express, National, Air North, UPS (stopped flying passenger charters), Ransome, German Wings, Highland Express, Laker, Dan Air London, British United, British Island, Brymon (are they still around?), BEA, National Jet (Italia), Compass (Australia), Compass (MkII)

Airspur (Helicopter service out of FUL)
Ansett
BEA
BOAC
Braniff II
Jet America
Linjeflyg
PanAM
PanAM Express (short lived commuter. I flew it from SNA)
PSA
Reno Air
Sabena
Swissair
Swissair Asia (does it count as one?)
TAA (or are they still i business?)
TWA
Western

Back to Australia: I'm not sure if Connair, MMA and/or Bush Pilot Airways still operate. Add to the list as needed, please.

Wow, 18 (or 21 maybe). Maybe I shouldn't fly anymore, it seems to be hazardous to the business.

(Edited to add Airspur)

PSA, one of the original lowfare airlines taking advantage of the intrastate exemption from regulation by the Civil Aeronautics Board. (Yes, I know that they "still" fly as a US captive carrier but that is not the "real" PSA)

Western, of course, "the oooooonnnnlly way to fly."

Piedmont with a hub in Dayton, Ohio was it? (Again, see above comment re USAirways)

Tower, with their incredible low fares LAX-JFK, their own new terminal at JFK and easy upgrades to the upper deck of their old 747s, the first time I was ever seated in the upper deck on a 747

Some I remember...

Old German favourites were DLT, Germanair, German Wings, Interflug, LTS, NFD, Paninternational, Tigges.

There also were Air Bahama, Balair, BEA, British Caledonien, Channel Airways, Dan Air, Loftleidir (CL-44 Turboprop from Luxembourg to JFK!!!), Swissair, VIASA, Zambia Airways.

In North America it were Air South, Canada 3000, Canadian Airlines, Carnival, Eastern, MGM, New York Air, Panam, President, PSA, Reno, Tower Air, TWA, Western, Western Pacific, Tower Air, TWA.

And how could I forget - Sabena. In case you do not know: The letters stood for "Such A Bloody Experience Never Again".

Sir Freddie Laker made you pay for 5 bucks for chicken or beef dinner, but he had some great rates back in the day.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but for those of you not lucky enough to fly it when it was around....

Air Rhodesia

(The old Vickers Viscounts for Air Rhodesia had the first two rows facing each other with a table in between. My first flights were on these...great for the parents to keep the kids occupied, happy, and quiet http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif )

I was suprised that my list was that long considering I basically rarely flew until 1985 and I lived in a hub city most of my life:
