My list is short, but I'm going to bring up one I didn't see mentioned and can't find much about:
Eastern (didn't everyone? PS Why doesn't someone buy rights to *this* name like they did PanAm?)
TWA
Allegheny (commuter and mainline)
New York Air
Piedmont
PeoplExpress
Presidential (in Continental Express livery but still independent)
Air New England
Now that's the one I want to know about. There appears to be a charter outfit still called Air New England (first you have to weed out all the references to a "virtual airline" of the same name, sheesh!), but I don't know if they're related. This Air New England was a scheduled commuter line with probably lots of spokes from BOS. I flew it BOS-Hyannis. I found a photo of timetable from 1981 that touted Baltimore (among other places) as a new destination. Don't know what kind of plane I flew (it was in mid-70s, some kind of 30ish seat prop, I was under 10 years old) or what else was in the fleet. I can't be the only one here to have flown this airline, though. Not with all of you having flown so much for so long. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I miss Impulse Airlines, with their sulfur-crested cockatoo emblems.
They flew Beechcraft 1900s out of Cooma and 717s elsewhere.
They are still flying in a sense, but under contract to Qantas now.
In three days time, we can sadly add Ansett to the list.

Presidential out of IAD to LGA -- first time I ever had a Sam Adams on a plane -- great memory.

In addition to many of those already mentioned -
Hawaii Express and
Mid Pacific Air (their mid 80's fare war brought 1 way interisland tickets in Hawaii to as low as $9.95)
And I seem to recall an airline called Capital, and another that flew only LAX -HNL in the 80's and lasted for about 3 weeks.
I didn't see anyone mention Infinite Airways.
