FAA buried lapses Checkpoint flaws

The government's Office of Special Counsel, which handles whistleblower complaints, has ordered the Transportation Department to investigate the allegations of Bogdan Dzakovic, an FAA special agent for the past 14 years. By law, the order means the special counsel believes ''there is a substantial likelihood'' that Dzakovic's complaint shows an ''abuse of authority'' or a ''substantial and specific danger to public safety.''

do these links expire? would it be better from a historical record point of view to cut and paste the article into the post? then when the news goes "cold" and they lose the link, we can still read about it.

of course this increases the load on the delicate FT server, but its just text...

It would, but doing so is, technically, a violation of copyright law. And, I think, agaisnt the FlyerTalk TOS. This is why you frequently see links, occasionally accompanied by snippets of the article, for context.

Copyright law has some gray areas ("fair use" for example), but posting -- i.e. publishing -- the full text of an articleauthored by someone else is pretty clearly a violation. A link is OK. An appropriate snippet of text (like the bit I copied from your post) is generally OK.

It's frustrating to click a dead link when the story looks good, but that's pretty much how it has to be.

Here are a few threads related to this particular issue that will perhaps clarify the copyright matter and the "sensitivities" involved:

...But many pilots, flight attendants and airline-operations personnel from carriers across the country tell Time they have never had a FAM on any of their flights. A Transportation Security Administration spokesman says virtually all information about the FAM program, including the budget, is classified and can't be discussed. But the agency has opened a second air-marshal training center. "FAMs will be a significant presence on flights," the spokesman said. He just didn't say when.
