Unreal...total absurdity.

As in all the other ridiculous stories/incidents, maybe the best intentions were there when these regulations were adopted, but when it translates to actual occurences, it just seems crazy.

All the passengers add to raise their hands over their heads for the last 25 minutes? Because some guy went to the pisser. CRAZY.

I doubt that going to the restroom was the issue here. It's the fact that he stood there and stared at the flight attendant after he was told to go back to his seat instead of doing so right away, and the fact that he gave the thumbs up to someone who was flying with him.

The rules may be stupid, but if you break them, you've only got yourself to blame. You'll excuse me if I have a hard time mustering up too much sympathy for someone who decided that he was too good for the rules after being told about them repeatedly.

I do agree that the marshalls took it way too far by forcing the rest of the passengers to put their hands over their heads. That's absurd, but I don't think I'd have argued too much with them. They have guns.

"Getting" 20 years and the potential maximum peanlty being 20 years are very different things.

He had to be aware of the rule, though, and made a conscious decision to break it.

I really think that these power-obsessed FA's are the real cause of the problem.

The guy won't get punished: after all, exigent circumstances are always a defense against arbitrary rules.

As for the hands on the head thing, that's simply retarded.

What is supposed to happen if someone has to make an "emegency" trip to the bathroom during the last 30 minutes. In all seriousness, a change of time zones can have very disruptive effects on certain folks' digestive systems, so it probably isn't all that out of the ordinary for there to be someone on a plane who really can't wait 30 minutes. What happens then?

I'd be in a world of hurt - w/ my rotator cuff pblm, I can't get my hands on my head without contortion..

What in the world possessed them? Just a gratuitous show of power??

I agree - if you snub your nose at them these days, you are simply asking for it. That being said, remember that Joe Neighbor isn't reading flyertalk, doesn't see himself as a risk, has no clue why he can't take a leak. Even if he's hearing the news about new airline security, it doesn't have the context it has for you and I.. if he's flown before, it was a very different time and place. So I suspect there are quite a few folks who genuinely don't "Get it".. bet he gets it now http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

1. John McCain would be in trouble since he can't raise his arms over his head (Viet Nam injuries.)

2. I know a couple who got "felt up" last week going through security. He by a female, she by a male. When she asked for a female, she was told none was available.

3. As for the 20 years, I believe the guy who defacated on the UA serving cart a few years ago, got a lot less.
Draw your own conclusion.
