Welcome to FT!

Easy to do, in every program I've ever looked at. Makes a nice gift for a graduation, etc.

If anything makes an airline suspicious that you may have sold an award ticket for money, they may ask the traveler a few simple questions that anyone who knows you would be able to answer but a purchaser would not. I wouldn't obsess over this, it seldom happens unless something about the gift attracts their attention and it's never happened to anyone I've ever gotten an award ticket for, but you may want to warn the recipient in case of a random check. (If the family member you want to get the ticket for has the same family name as you, this is a total non-issue.)

Yes, you can either call the airline or do it via online. Just tell the airline that you want to book for a family member/Friend. Most of us on these forums have done that multiple times.

I've done it with both NW and DL. No problem. As said above, you can either call or do it online.
