Believe it or not, a lot of people don't want to go to South Africa. I was lucky enough to win 28 tickets to 7 games and hardly anyone wants to come .. as opposed to the 3 tickets I won for 2006 in germany and everyone wanted to come.
Winter + africa + 5-7 vaccines does not merit desire, even for the WC
You can get semi-decent flights from LA-JNB now for 90k
I am shooting for GRU-JNB for 60k but south african airlines hasn't opened reward seats yet (8 hr direct flight from GRU as opposed to 30-50 hour flight from LAX due to layover in lisbon!)

it's not a bad primer
as stupidzbu notes, it's in the last section of the article but i'd like to see the author say he flew int'l first class for $28.00 and earned miles 
(hint: used a voucher but he never goes into that part of the fun)

Hell... everytime I fly I purposely try to book flights I know will be overbooked so I can get that voucher! hahaha I just used my last one the other day, hopefully I can pick some more up next week with my flights to MVD
