No Sat stays or x days in adv that it must be purchased.

Or if the tkt is $410 its yours , from what Ive been told I cant get a $410 tkt by using 20k in pts and paying $10

No real loss as 15k was a bonus and 20k were a Gift from the Mint
Actually even that option with $ cap, has gone away March 1, 2009.

It is a strict 1cent per 1 TYP value redemption - and it is working as if you are using the cash, other than the extra 800 TYP cost for the booking fee.

Incidentally, how did you all learn about the end of the fixed flight option for TYP back in March? I received a generic notice from ThankYou, but it made no specific mention of dropping the fixed flight option.

It wasn't until I stumbled across these forums well past the March cutoff that I learned that my 100,000 TYP are now significantly devalued.

odom4president what Citi credit card(s) or other accounts do you have which kept the ThankYou points from expiring when you cancelled the card?

i still have my Citi MtVu credit card which i got when i entered college 3 years ago

it appears the typ's are exactly 1pt=1 cent

for example, the cheapest SFO-LUB flight on a weekday, is 36K pts (on southwest u can get $109 each way if booked in advance)

the cheapest, SFO-LAX rountrip costs 14K points (which is reasonable, although on southwest u get it for $120)

looks like ill be using my chase freedom to book travel from now on

If you have an eligible card, the notice is on the stub of your January statement. It is either on the paper statement or under a part of the online statement. In fact the official notice was posted by a guy who saw it on his online statement, about mid January. At that time, the verbal notice already been given by CSRs for like over 2 weeks. It does specifically say the fixed point option is gone by March 1.

Of course if you haven't used your card, you would not get the statement.

It has ALWAYS been 1 cent per point for the Flexible Point Redemption from the day 1 of the TYP program.

You will not get Southwest flights because Southwest only sells its flights on its own site. Southwest does not work with any travel agency.

Another thing to be aware of is that another Citi account does not guarantee that the points you earned from a card which is no longer open will remain in your TYN acct. At the same time of the elimination of the fixed point option, the T&C of TYN changed to state that if a card account is closed, the points earned from that card "may" be at risk of being forfeited. Burn 'em while you can.

thanks for heads up, i was only saving my TYN's points for a future expedia flight but since thats gone (20K cannot get you a roundtrip anywhere) what is a good gift card I should get?

I am debating between sears, best buy, or staples gc's. Anybody know what GC's retain the most value long-term?

Some personal observations:
None of those cards expire.
Sears cards also can be used at Kmart, including their pharmacy, and Landsend.com.
Best Buy gift cards can be used to buy other Best Buy gc's in smaller denominations, so I've used their $100 cards to buy a few smaller cards for gift-giving, and shipping is free. I have done this online but have not tried it in the store.
