yep that went right by me
I just got my Flex CC up to 40,000 and realized its not such a good deal. Its 2% back but only if the tkt comes out to $400 even. If its say $340 you lose the $60. while getting a 2% rebate CC you get the whole $400 and anything less then $400 is yours to keep (thats if you use the $$ for a tkt). No Sat stays or x days in adv that it must be purchased.
Or if the tkt is $410 its yours , from what Ive been told I cant get a $410 tkt by using 20k in pts and paying $10
No real loss as 15k was a bonus and 20k were a Gift from the Mint

It is a strict 1cent per 1 TYP value redemption - and it is working as if you are using the cash, other than the extra 800 TYP cost for the booking fee.

Incidentally, how did you all learn about the end of the fixed flight option for TYP back in March? I received a generic notice from ThankYou, but it made no specific mention of dropping the fixed flight option.
It wasn't until I stumbled across these forums well past the March cutoff that I learned that my 100,000 TYP are now significantly devalued.

Was the said advertisement directed specifically to you or offered to you? Did you happen to also have a checking account with them at that time that could have enabled you be eligible for fixed point redemption? Like a previous poster suggested, there are a lot of discussions about TYP in the credit cards forum on FT that you can certainly look up.

It's entirely possible that Citi offered a single 20k Fixed Flight award as an inducement to apply for a card which was not otherwise eligible for the Fixed Flight option. The OP would need to call ThankYou customer service to ask if the account is somehow eligible for this particular award, it was never possible to book Fixed Flight awards on the website.
odom4president what Citi credit card(s) or other accounts do you have which kept the ThankYou points from expiring when you cancelled the card?

it appears the typ's are exactly 1pt=1 cent
for example, the cheapest SFO-LUB flight on a weekday, is 36K pts (on southwest u can get $109 each way if booked in advance)
the cheapest, SFO-LAX rountrip costs 14K points (which is reasonable, although on southwest u get it for $120)
looks like ill be using my chase freedom to book travel from now on

Of course if you haven't used your card, you would not get the statement.

You will not get Southwest flights because Southwest only sells its flights on its own site. Southwest does not work with any travel agency.

Another thing to be aware of is that another Citi account does not guarantee that the points you earned from a card which is no longer open will remain in your TYN acct. At the same time of the elimination of the fixed point option, the T&C of TYN changed to state that if a card account is closed, the points earned from that card "may" be at risk of being forfeited. Burn 'em while you can.

I am debating between sears, best buy, or staples gc's. Anybody know what GC's retain the most value long-term?

None of those cards expire.
Sears cards also can be used at Kmart, including their pharmacy, and Landsend.com.
Best Buy gift cards can be used to buy other Best Buy gc's in smaller denominations, so I've used their $100 cards to buy a few smaller cards for gift-giving, and shipping is free. I have done this online but have not tried it in the store.
