Upgrade Certs
OK, I know this is a 'touchy" subject and I am not trying to offend, annoy or otherwise provoke anyone, but...
Does anyone know where I can get two UA upgrade certs valid to Hawaii. Wedding/honeymoon planned for October -- want to surprise new wife with 1st class but fare differential is HUGE (I know, that's why it's first class!)...
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Best bet is to use ua miles to upgrade. If no miles convert Hilton points to miles.Or use an affinity card i.e.ua visa or diners club

One thing is for sure. Not only will the future bride change her name in October. You
"most definitely" will. "onefreeman" will be no longer. Your best bet is to find some miles to upgrade from coach.

No such thing as upgrade certificate to Hawaii other than 30k mile upgrade award on United. Even 1k freebie upgrade not valid to/from Hawaii unless Hawaii resident. Upgrade to Hawaii is very cherished. Try Hawaian Airlines paid first class. About 1/3 the cost of the majors.

The 1K one way certificates are not valid for Hawaii. However the 500 mile multiple certificates issued to Premier members say that they are valid in N America and Hawaii (non premier members can only use these on full fare economy tickets, premiers can use with any published fare). I could not find any restriction on my certificates which indicated that I could not use it to Hawaii.

Question. These 1K "freebie" upgrades that are not good for Hawaii...are they the 4 certs that you get at the begining of the year or something else I don't know about. I just acheived 1K this past weekend and I figure it will be some time before I get my kit and would like to know. Thanks.

as pgupta011 says: the 500 miles vouchers (complimentary, or you as 1K can buy them 4 times 500 miles for $200) are valid to Hawaii.
Also, with a 20'000 miles upgrade (one-way, 40'000 miles return) I can upgrade the whole Europe-US mainland-Hawaii ticket (I did this 2 years ago).

Actually, your best bet is to look like lovebirds and tell the gate agent (gatekeeper as I call them) that you just got married. If you meet up with one in a good mood, you might get an upgrade if its available.

OneFreeman... If you want to upgrade... do
it YESTERDAY!!! Trust me, the seats are
disappearing faster than special awards in
the frequent flyer programs.
Are you a member of the guest program where
you are staying in Hawaii? Maybe the hotel
can you a complementary upgrade since you
are honeymooners!
Here's some advice for when you want to surprise your wife with a first anniversary
trip... get your upgrades and extras as early as possible. Like when you get back from
the honeymoon!
Have a wonderful trip! CATMAN
