Drat - just realised about this no miles allowed on BA transatlantic thing, well subsititute SFO then for YVR or somewhere similar.
But that's still $1400 - my way's half the price. And I think people are much more liable to find themselves in Singapore than Krakow, but then again, maybe not .

Not Free but elite status thru Ameniti

Thanks

This is not exactly free but UA is offering memberships in their Ameniti Travel Club for $295 which includes 25k MP miles AND Starwood Gold status as well as 2 RCC passes and a few other goodies.

Anyone have any information or tried comping a SQ Elite Gold to a CX Marco Polo. I hear that CX treats their members A LOT better! Also being based in the UK, I travel on BA a lot more.

What the guy from Marriott meant to say was that the demand for GE and PE benefits are very high that they don't want to give them away. I concur this based on my own experience, I stayed at Marriott Oakbrook, IL for 3 months, continuously getting access to the top floor rooms with fridge etc (due to fewer competing PE members) despite paying ridiculously low rate. At Marriott East Hanover, NJ, for 3 months now, only sometimes that I get access to the top floor rooms due to big numbers of PE staying over there and in that case they compared the rates I'm paying vs the others, and because of my lower rate, I usually 'lose out', though not all the time.

How do I know I wasn't being fooled? I could get in the lounge at Oakbrook anytime and not seeing a soul, in fact that was confirmed when talking to the nice lady attendant over there. At East Hanover, it's difficult to get breakfast without brushing shoulder with another lounge member, and they have at least two sometimes three attendants. True, another reason could be due the fact they are serving full breakfast at the lounge, I guess not all lounge visitors are GE or PE. But still the above observation still holds. I'm sure I'm not alone in this observation about Marriott Elite members/benefits.

Thanks all for the information. United just matched my status on AA/DL in less than 24 hours since I sent the fax !! I'm heading to Tokyo next week so the extra bonus miles will be great for the 10 minutes of work it took.

if it means anything, NW matched my AS status, took close to 2 weeks but they did it nonetheless.

Most of my flying was on NW but since I was an AS MVP I was banking on As, sorta stupid because I lost out on upgrade opportunities but I wanted the 50% mileage bonus.

DL-AF match

Here's my situation:

I just flew on my 43rd SkyTeam flight for 2005. I've been collecting all the miles on Air France's Frequence Plus FFP.

I have requalified already for F+ Rouge (and for Flying Blue Platinum, when it is introduced).

Of the 43 flights, turns out, 3 were on AF, 4 on NW and 36 on DL.

I was wondering:

1. Would it be worth asking DL to match my F+ / FB status on Skymiles?
2. If so, would DL match my Platinum status?

I have read that DL won't match platinum status, but it's worth considering that I got the F+ / FB status by flying on DL in the first place!

United Status Match

I've seen recent posts where people have gotten status match from United within 24 hours. I called and they say it could take up to 5 business days. It's now been 3 business days and no response. One rep suggested I refax it.......

No harm trying, but generally alliance members (SkyTeam) don't want to poach elites from other alliance (SkyTeam) members.

If UA goes bust, will any *A, AA or DL likely to comp?

I am currently UA PremierExec but will probably end 2005 as 1K if UA does not liquidate in the meantime.

Do you know if any other *A airline (LH preferably), AA, DL, or any other major carrier with european routes be likely to comp former UA elites?

CO top-tier match request

I am hoping that CO will give me top tier for my AA EXP. Probably?

I don't want it to expire until 2/28/2007. How do they handle this? How late this year do I have to request the match to be reasonably hopeful of getting a 2007 expiration date?

Thanks!

My understanding is that CO will only give you Gold (mid-tier) for AA EXP. In general, most of the airlines will not comp their highest elite level. In other words, at best, you will get the mid-tier level as a comp. In any event, if you earned AA EXP (100K), earning CO Plat (75K) should not be a problem for you.

CO is the only major that WILL match you even to PLT in their program.
