Anyone would be silly to pay if they knew that all they needed was this link.

I have several thoughts...

Some on the board seem to be wondering if the seller of the auction is the same person as the original poster?

I'll assume not for the moment, but if they were the same it wouldn't really be appropriate to be hawking the auction here in a post on Flyertalk.

The original poster asks if anyone has heard of the offer.

* Yes, several have, see my link above. Any current mileage plus member can refer a new member and if that new member flies on a qualifying fare basis both get miles.

* This is quite common -- United does it all the time, most airlines at one time or another offer referral bonuses. Sometimes they require a flight. Other times they just require some account activity.

* Many folks here have certainly heard of frequent flyer knowledge being auctioned off on Flyertalk, or written about in pay newsletters. Nothing new.

So them's my thoughts. Other takes on my bulleted observations?

Best,
Gary

Edited to add -- welcome to Flyertalk red_jellybean -- hope we're not scarin' you off -- we're actually quite a friendly bunch!

It would seem... that if this thread is going to remain open... then it should be moved to the United Forum...
